They sold off all the large meat processing companies, but in the end alot of that meat comes from small/medium sized rural farms and they are ultimately the ones with control.

I know that in some areas, these farmers are looking to start smaller processing plants and be able to distribute locally to stores.

That's great news for rural communities, as usual bad news for big city shitholes, but they can eat rats for all I care.

been stocking up for weeks. Every time I go to the store I spend 50% on stuff for the next few days and 50% on stuff for long term.

Fully expect the U.S. government to abandon the citizens and cut off our food supply.

China has a history of extreme starvation, I'm guessing this is not typical panic buying.

Re: China Sparks "Panic Buying" After Telling Households To Stockpile Food Ahead Of Winter
I have a wood fireplace insert on order, will be installed in four weeks. My current home heat is gas but it won't function if the electricity goes out (thermostatically controlled). That is a no-go for me up here in north Idaho, especially when this winter is predicted to be record breaking cold, with strange jet stream anomalies. Laying in a supply of several cords of wood on my back sundeck. I have a 9 tray Excalibur dehydrator that is running non stop, getting ready. Much grain, beans, rice, canned meat, etc.

Yes, some of us do.

We are currently net importers of a horrifying amount of finished food products right now, and whilr the news refuses to report on it... Harvests were not good this year.

Things are on a crash course towards incredibly bad shit.

Most of it is utterly unavoidable at this point too.

Food will be more valuable than gold. You can’t eat gold and survive. If you have gold, sell some of it to buy food and the basics:

Food, clothing, shelter, security.

In 1955, Eisenhower’s Federal Civil Defense Administration launched a propaganda campaign they called “Grandma’s Pantry,” calling for each household to have ready a seven-day supply of food and water for an attack. “Grandma’s Pantry, the symbol of preparedness. Unexpected company? Grandma always had plenty for everyone,” explained one radio ad. “In an emergency or during evacuation in case of enemy attack it's too late to plan. You’ll have to depend on your own resources — on Grandma’s Pantry.” Women’s magazines carried articles like “Take these steps now to save your family,” and Sears, Roebuck and Co. erected government-produced “Grandma’s Pantry” exhibits in 500 of its stores, encouraging people to stock up on Hawaiian Punch, Campbell’s soup, Tang, boxes of cornflakes, and candy bars.
