Plenty of people who can contribute to the society but who can't do the violence part. Why do you think everyone back then was violent? Most of the time threats would be enough, but everyone must come to the fact that pulling the trigger may be the difference between you dead or the other guy dead. I think I would survive at least for a time. Disease, injury, famine, sanitation are the real killers. And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say. |

Just go back 30-40 years here in my home country and people left doors unlocked. Not today though. US around 1900 had a fraction of the homicide/murder rates it has today, despite having a revolver on you was common dresscode and people were notorious for consuming large amounts of whiskey in addition to having that revolver. Large areas was outside the reach of the law, and if you got a bad wound, there werent even antibiotics to help you recover. It was set up for absolute carnage, still things were peaceful compared to today for the most part. And if you go forward a few decades to the 1920-1930s you had mass shootings like the valentines massacre, today thats almost like a routine event. And to top it all off, good medical treatments that makes people survive things that otherwise would be fatal and much fewer young men which are the usual suspects regarding violence, something very disturbing has happened to people in the west.
