The Russians destroyed their own satellite, in practice for the upcoming war between Russia, the U.S. and China. At the start of the war, The three countries will try to deprive the others of communications, by destroying each others satellites, space stations, and orbiting weapons platforms. After this war, man will never be able to leave the earth again, or launch satellites into orbit.

I think the Russians deliberately polluted Space.
