Anonymous Coward User ID: 325789 ![]() 01/28/2008 10:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am appalled that the "specialists" apparently never bother imaging the inside of this kid's ear canal because doing so would have disclosed the nature and density of the object stuck in the inner ear canal. Wax indeed? Of course if there is an object stuck in the canal the body will try to encapsulate it with ear wax. Hardly big news there. But it's what is BEHIND the wax formation that is critical. It could have been a tumor, a foreign object, some sort of skin tag or growth, etc. The fact that he went for a decade without it being imaged or properly examined to determine EXACTLY what it was is - in my opinion - gross negligence teetering on the criminal! The pity is the parents of this young boy live in the UK where suing a specialist for medical malpractice is difficult if not impossible. Once in a while there is something to be said for our US system of punishingly costly lawsuits and our penchant for 7 and 8 figure jury awards for the grossest kind of medical negligence. (Rarely, but sometimes it seems appropriate for punishing these self-styled "specialists" who think nothing of relieving the insurance companies of thousands of dollars or pounds for their dubious "office visits" and yet cannot find among them the collective intelligence to order a simple scan or MRI of the ear canal to definitively establish what the blockage is, and determine an appropriate course of treatment for it. To have allowed this child to suffer needlessly for almost a decade - and the impact on his psycho-social development caused by this pseudo-deafness is just un-friggin-conscionable !!! |
