I get confused regarding who's evil in the narrative.

Didn't the main character of the first book get mad because humans disobeyed and obtained knowledge and then evicted them?

Then when we made a building that could access other realms the boss had it knocked down and our communications scrambled to ...uh, keep us from being like his posse?

Then the main character's favorite people were enslaved and then lost in the desert for generations and then had snakes sicked on them before they were directed to commit serial genocide, theft and rape, right?

Wasn't the main character given a portion of the spoils after a slaughter, like 60 virgins and gold? Wasn't He described as having steaming nostrils in a long snout and wings?

Then there was the sacrifice of a guy's child at the direction of the main character, that turned out to be a joke... and there was also the torture of a loyal servant and the murder of his family due to a bet between the two honchos, right?

I remember a talking donkey and a seeming inability of the main character to know what was going on out of sight, despite omniscience. Uhm, well, and there were some wonderful sayings and wise, beautiful stories... between the donkey dicks, incest, murder and begetting, at least.

I remember that the opposition offered knowledge of good and evil, as well as the tools of civilization and survival and ... uh...

oh yeah, the other guy tempted the nice son in the desert with hollow, worldly kingship if he would worship him instead of his dad, the main character, and that's pretty nasty... and ... there must be more bad stuff I'm missing, right?

At least the main character's alleged son in the sequel was much, much cooler than the dad... when quoted directly and didn't have others speaking for him, anyway.

But which side was more evil, or worse than the other? I'm confused.
