Amen. I would with my mom and another who I considered my 'second mom', too.

Enjoy and be grateful for good eats, all your beautiful memories and your dignity and soul, O'Leary, because the latter two are more important than fake people no matter how many you could fit around the table.

Real mashed 'taters are easy peasy to make, btw. Treat yourself! It'll be worth it. =)

Re: I Live alone and have no friends - Thanksgiving Style
This will be the 3rd year I won't be celebrating a holiday. I just can't bring myself to do it without my youngest daughter.

I keep telling my older 2 children maybe next year. They go to their friends or other family members house.

Each year it does get a little easier though. The first year I completely shut down. Last year I made her favorite homemade mac and cheese for work and shared it. This year I'll do the same again and I was just talking to my 2 cats and dog saying I think I'll make a chocolate pie. Another one of my daughters favorites.

Who knows maybe next year I'll be able to do the whole meal again.

My advice is do whatever feels right for you. It sounds like you'll have a lovely meal.hf

Imagine you're inside your body, standing in front of your heart.

The heart has two doors, one open and one closed.

The open door is releasing love from you, going out to the world in whatever forms you've chosen… compassion, empathy, kindness, patience.

Open the closed door and leave it open. This opened door now allows love from the universe to flow into you. You will now receive more love than you can give. What you cannot hold within your heart will flow out of the other door.

Step through one of the doors and go inside your heart. You see inside another you. Not a reflection like in a mirror, but you. You exist within your own heart, always have and always will. Give yourself a hug and hold it for as long as you wish.

At any time you feel lonely, lost, frustrated, bored, whatever… step inside your heart and be with yourself. The "you" in there knows everything, understands everything, can navigate through anything.

OP, Enjoying Thanksgiving dinner solo can be so much more relaxing than gathering with some friends or family members.

Do you know how many get really drunk, start fighting, arguing, putting each other down, making nasty remarks. generally ruining the holiday for all in attendance?
NO THANKS.

Not mocking you bro. I enjoy your humor and have even shared it outside if this dump.

Bob Evans is an excellent choice for your situation and they taste just like they should. Hope you enjoy them for the filler that they are. Most people cooking them are afraid to add enough butter. My brother passed away two years ago he was a chef. He would tell me to add the butter until you taste it. My guess is one pound of butter to five pounds of potatoes. Don't ask him for a recipe you never get it. Everything was by taste. He would tell you how to make it.

Lost my wife in March so it's the first one without her in 22 years. Should be a great time for all! Let's have fun the best way we can.

Family are just a horse's ass these days, you should count yourself lucky to live in peace and quiet.

You can speak to us lot so you are not alone or incommunicado.

I love that you are celebrating for yourself.

My husband is away on work this Thanksgiving, so it's just the
3 children and I. We aren't really too interested in celebrating this year, so I am giving them the day off from homeschool and we are going to watch some movies and hang out on the couch together.

Hello Gypo that guy above didn't mean you are the
President (of your own world - you are) … it was
a joke at your post being written by President Brandon.

Since you reached out to GLP, I would like to give you
some advice...

1. I hope there were good times at some point in your life,
so indulge in reminiscence by playing the music of the
era, the food, the memories etc*
2. While you are still on this earth there is always
possibility that things can change for the better,
just as there was chance for the condition you find
yourself in currently
3. Can you get a rescue pet? you could save each other.
there's a lot to be said for a great pet vs. bad humans
We are lucky when they come into our lives!

*My fav music this time of year is the entire soundtrack
from the Carlie Brown Christmas Special … Vince Guaraldi
made masterpieces on that. Track 5 played in the evening
will bring you back to the evening snowfalls of childhood
and the excitement of a snow day, or a peaceful Christmas
Eve, whatever your perspective, its there

4. Don't watch Hallmark holiday movies, they will get you
even more depressed
5. Tolerate and enjoy "Its a Wonderful Life"
because it has a little dark in it too
6. If you want to go out there watch the Twilight Zone
Christmas episode "Night of the Meek"
7. Theres a great true movie of WW1 where there was an
impulsive truce between the troops on Christmas eve

*did you enjoy model trains? get back to the hobby! you
can meet people too! and re-post on Thanksgiving so we
can chat with other GLPers with little or no family!
 Quoting: russ59dd

When my mother passed away, my younger brother (who always envied my trains, stole them from her house). And the crw of them also took about 50K-70K that should have been mine...but that is a whole 'nother story.

I had a car where a Giraffe head came out and went back down, and a gold car where two cowboys came out and went back shooting at each other. I had an orange locomotive and caboose.

I always watch 'The Lion in Winter' on Christmas eve. It is basically about some cruel ruthless dysfunctional assholes having Christmas together.

Buy a flower arrangement from the grocery store. Amazing what some beautiful flowers can do to add a bit of cheer.

Reminders of what is simple, beautiful and pure. How incredible Creation is. The little things that often go unnoticed. Allow yourself to truly enjoy them.
