If I was holding someone at gunpoint, and they attacked me to take the gun away, I would assume that they would probably use the gun to shoot me, and I would shoot them if I could.

Your just going to have to suck it up, and realize they were wrong in what they did, according to THE LAW.
Circumstances, former law enforcement, doesn't matter.
If he had had a weapon..actual stolen goods on him...probable cause...I could see it happening that way....but thats NOT what happened.
So innocent, and the prosecuted...GUILTY AS CHARGED.
Your gun is a serious thing. Should never be taken likely, and has a HUGE responsibility attached to it.
Thats what every Gun Owner needs to own.
