Keep moving. Quoting: Greenley PaigeGreat advice. Cover your head and two pairs of socks in your boots. You can even layer your gloves. Long johns are advisable.Time your activities, as well. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 321697 Canada 01/29/2008 01:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That's sound, logical advice, thanks. Quoting: theresidentI normally drive, so this wouldn't be a problem, but today and tomorrow I have to use public transit! Call a cab, man! It's -40C in Edmonton today without the wind chill.. burrr. Two weeks ago our wind chills were -30C down here in southern Ontario and my father got frost bite on his hands while unloading a few boxes from his van for a convention. I couldn't imagine what near -50C wind chills must feel like. I freak out and stay inside when it is -20C wind chill. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 364047 United States 01/29/2008 01:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You live in Canada and don't have a pair of long johns?? Those are essential for venturing out in the bitter windchills. I would suggest polypropelene under-wear for skiers, I've been able to stay outdoors for hours with that as my first layer (and several others on top of that). Otherwise, do several layers with what you have. Make sure no skin is exposed or open to drafts (eg. at yer wrists, ankles, neck). And yes, do keep moving, but don't run and work up a sweat. |

I don't have any long johns either, and I'm a mailman here in northwest Kansas who is out about there every day. I much prefer sweat pants under me postal pants, and cuz they are not only warmer to wear but they also feel a whole lot more comfy next to me skin as well. And then and then, double up on them sweat pants, lol, and -27F doesn't feel all that cold at all. |
Whee! 8D User ID: 363742 Canada 01/29/2008 08:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Is it normal that I find this question weird? I mean. Is it really a question to ask? I think that the answer to it is so obvious. If you have to go out just put on a T-Shirt with a long sleeve shirt, hot pants, two pairs of socks and then put on your snow suit, tuque, collar, do not wear gloves but mittens. It's hotter since your fingers are all together. Cover your cheeks properly to prevent chilblains. Once they will have frozen white once, they will refreeze more easily. Anonymous Coward User ID: 364376 United States 01/29/2008 09:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | you youngsters just dont know what cold is! Back in my day we'd have to go work out in the barn every morning in order to feed ourselves. And when someone come out of the house and yelled to the barn their words would freeze right in mid air and drop to the ground. Then they would have to fling 'em over to the barn so they could be put near a lantern and thawed out before we knew it was time to go in and eat supper! Imagine those poor pioneers who founded this country having to cross the open plains in this weather! No big ol' burly new fangled coats and boots and gloves and stocking caps for them.Nope.Just the clothes on their backs and their bedding.Sometimes they wouldnt even bother to get out of bed, just started walking in the freezing cold all bundled up. Yeah, you youngsters these days have it easy with your nintendo wee wee's and your skateboards and pot roaches.Sitting in nice heated homes watching your cartoony shows on the big screens or playing your mario games on the internet.Yep, you got it pretty sweet, and thats all because of those poor freezing ass pioneers who decided to get out of bed and invent things so that their kids didnt have to freeze off their jiblets or toss words on a cold day. |
