Putin sends 175,000 troops to surround Ukraine (NATO estimates that Russia is planning a multi-pronged invasion of the territory within weeks) 2. Belarus says it will fight with Russia against Ukraine at the same time as a crisis unfolds between Belarus and Poland (putting pressure on NATO's northern flank). 3. 24 hours later, US threatens Russia with "severe consequences" 3. Biden and Putin have a video call (you can just imagine Putin's response at this point: "Just try me"). 4. FSB says Ukrainian ship ignores warnings at Kerch Strait (this is the very Strait where a Russian warship fired upon and captured three Ukrainian vessels in 2018) 4. Putin says "efforts to resolve the stand-off peacefully are now at an impasse". 5. Shipping jam in Kerch Strait. NATO planes intercepted in the area. Russia now saying the safety of its maritime trade is being threatened. Can you guess what happens next? |
