"Authority" is not a title, it is something given from one person to another.

Usually it is of recipricol benefit -- i.e. handing off authority over a certain task, because you trust that person to handle it more capably than you are able or willing to do yourself.

In the case of Tony Fauxi and the criminal enterprise that employs him, I do not trust them with my health, period, full stop, end of conversation. I never handed off authority over my health, or my body, EVER. Not even my personal doctor has AUTHORITY over me, because it is ludicrous.

Also, not respecting his self proclaimed authority does not mean I do not respect other institutions. Integrity matters.

If he means that I don't respect dictators, then yeah... no argument there.
