THE LONG VALLEY CALDERA supervolcano is considered to be one of the world's most dangerous, its eruption posing an "existential threat" to millions in the US.

The caldera is located in eastern California and sits next to Mammoth Mountain. One of the planet's largest depressions, it is a huge, cauldron-like hollow that forms after an eruption. Measuring a staggering 20 miles long and 11 miles long, it is up to 3,000 feet deep.

Affordable-housing mandates and breakaway homeless millions' declaration of sovereignty over pedestrianways have closed the door on the region's Golden State mythos. The collective imagination, meanwhile, shelters in place, clawing at the task of coming to terms with images of Jussie licking his assailants' fingers. Understandably, managers see no solution but a rethink for the entire region. Or, if catastrophe were to intervene, ...

Central Valley collapses from a plague of instabilities, returns the region to its former archipelago layout. Land masses jutting from coastal waters, looking pretty much like Chinese and others' maps from 15th Century and earlier. Waterway extending from Sea of Cortez to Silicon Valley.

Resembling, as well, Taoists' sacred mountains: home to long-bearded celestials, streets tiled with gold, dragons and other cryptids, and springs to supply elixers for eternal life—creating amazing marketing narratives for offshore buyers.

Next, for ease of managing the aftermath, survivors are removed to quarantine camps east of the Rockies, while contractors flock from around the globe to bid on a Great Wall the length of the Pacific Crest Trail. As well as autonomous trade zones and luxury waterfront throughout the chains of newly formed, dizzyingly chic islands.
