Arkansas Waitress works 40-person party, receives $4000+ tip....then gets fired.
An Arkansas waitress received a whopping $4,400 tip, only to be fired after her manager made her split it with other staffers, according to reports.

The generous gratuity came on Dec. 6, when waitress Ryan Brandt and another server worked a party of more than 40 at Oven and Tap in Bentonville, Fox 59 reported.

Each diner had chipped in $100 in tip money — believing the total would go to both servers.

“We knew servers were really hit hard through COVID, and it was something that we had come up with to help give back,” Grant Wise, who dined at the eatery following a conference in town, told CBS 5.

But the restaurant’s manager instructed Brandt to pool the tip with her co-workers who didn’t serve the large party, in an arrangement she told Fox 59 was unprecedented in her more than three years working there.

What he did was actually illegal and she could sue both the manager and the restaurant.

Well, yeah.

She has to pretend that she's upset, but she'll get over it.

But in the end she'll be happy.

I did read an update in Daily Mail.
Somewhat of a happy ending. The man who gave her this tip started a GoFundme after all this went down. In just a couple of days they raised $8,500 for her, and she's had a number of new job offers. Happy Holidays!

Large exchanges of "gratuitous wealth" are often simple cases of laundering or fraud by all parties involved, especially when these exchanges are tax free or otherwise reduced.

If she didn't have a work contract she signed, it's not a real job. Unfortunately there's that sneaky bit they all have.. terms can change at any time and it's the signee's responsibility to review them though often the contract maker is required to offer fair notification of changes to which most people just say ok or otherwise ignore, which is the same as saying ok.

there's a comment here i read that assuming the manager and waitress, and perhaps but not necessarily one or more of the dining party know eachother, can end up spending however much the cost of a meal for 40 (which can be much cheaper than you might expect) and end up walking away with the entire restaurant chains multi-million dollar fortune. ok sure theyre more successful, but maybe they earned it. theres a lot of closet financial dolts here and no its not even about capitalism or not its about effort equaling reward or not. which is why people do (and sometimes dont do) anything.

and no. carrying a tray of food 10 to 30 feet yes even 40 times, which i doubt was anywhere near that is not some sort of act of martyrdom or "above and beyond" action. unless smiling and being friendly and receptive is some grueling task. which it can be depending on the crowd admittedly.

of course pooling a $4000 tip is unprecedented so was the tip itself.

think of the other servers. they should be supporting the restaurant, why dont they? if they believe so wholeheartedly in fairness they can cash their paycheck and give whatever her name is their pool. all this is is bringing attention to some place 349.9 million Americans probably never would have heard of in their lives. so. well played, all.

There is no excuse to fire someone for receiving a tip. Ridiculous.

The economy is so broke in debt a company owner fires his own waitress for a tip. Are you serious?

You will get screwed sooner than later. It's as easy as your manager misunderstanding what a look meant after you used "bad tone" (ie you put the wrong words next to each other) during an innocuous conversation.

Do it if you have to but they're just going to buy a robot to replace before giving you two weeks at some point in the not too distant future. There is no loyalty. It's you versus them.

Something doesn't add up. Evidently the other person got to keep the full $2200 (half of the tip for the two), and apparently she or he is still working there.

Restaurant claims that she was let go for some other reason.

I was a cab driver and that happened to me too! I didn't

get fired but if I was the only one working for one person

and that person happens to give me a HUGE TIP, why should

I share with anyone else? They actually told me to do it

and I flat out said 'no way'.

Of course waitressing is different. But splitting a tip YOU

worked for doesn't seem fair in my eyes either.

The article says there's a gofundme. I looked under all the party's names and couldn't find it.

So when someone doesn't want the same dish over and over prepared I don't know half an hour later if you happen to have more than one customer.. that's a very small customer base.

You can't have every single person running at best with one person assuming you rationally understand what your saying running some sort of one person food shack running between other food shacks when theyre bored or just sitting there eating what they have while SIMULTANEOUSLY watching whatever farm/crops/source of product they have to ensure not only they dont starve but have something to serve. it doesnt make sense. i get what your saying set your own rules but.. sometimes dudes just be lazy. some will get ahead, some will fall behind. which is fine until those who fall behind try to steal from those who get ahead and.. since theyre ahead have better means to defend themselves. it just never lasts for long man.

I thought this is how they normally do it though? Pooling it. This way all the grunt staff gets a cut working as a team even the dishwashers. Managers and Owners should not get $hit because they usually are making salary or own the place.

How much did the cook make for preparing this meal for 40 people?

Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised at co-owner Luke Wetzel's apparent "share the wealth" (even though you didn't work for it) mentality -- before becoming co-owner of The Oven and Tap in Arkansas he worked in communist San Francisco.

I would say at least 10 times the waitress hourly wage.

I wounder how much the cook gives the waitress on days when she makes crap for tips for the night.
