Five schoolchildren died in Australia on Thursday when authorities say a bounce castle they were playing in during a celebration was picked up by a gust of wind and the children fell out of it.

The incident occurred at a school in Devonport in Australia's island state of Tasmania.

Officials said nine children were in the castle when a strong gust of wind picked it up. Some of them fell from the inflatable castle about 30 feet to the ground.

Police said four of the children, two boys and two girls, died at the scene. A fifth child died later at the hospital.

Tasmania Police Commissioner Darren Hine said some of the other children were injured.

The children in the castle were reported to be about 10 or 11 years old.

"On a day when these children were meant to be celebrating the last day of primary school," Hine said, according to The New York Times. "Instead we're all mourning their loss."

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the events were heartbreaking.

In 2019, two children were killed in a similar accident in China when a bouncy castle was also swept into the air.

Damn....how absolutely fucking terrible.

Fuck. I HATE hearing about kids getting hurt or killed. Really bothers me.

I know death is a part of life, but i don't like it nonetheless.

Maybe God decided to rapture these kids away from the stupidity happening down under.

I'll at least tell myself this.

Now I need to go watch a car or funny animal video.

Sure took long enough for a thread on this event. This is a significant event and people ignored it?

These Bouncy Castles are deadly and need to be stopped. Many children are mamed and killed on these things. Enough. They aren't safe outdoors.

If 5 people die in Australia

5 children

Its the same as if 70 children die in America

Because Australia has 1/20 the population (24 million v 350 million)

Look like Tasmania is a shithole country

the carnee company who can't tie down or bag down a bouncy castle should face the parents and the parents should face their parents for letting their kids anywhere near this company and the school should face the international united nation for letting kids anywhere near this kind of castle

They give you little stakes to hook the loops to, but they aren’t long stakes and if the ground is oft they might as well tie it down with a piece of thread.

I had one when my kids were younger and I used ratchet straps tied to the metal railings and chain link fence.

Never had a problem
