Young people are being born and bred into a society where they are so interconnected with the Internet and with devices, they don't know what life is like without them. Try to get one of them to read a map, or remember a telephone number.

Modern tech has become such an extension of self, the fulcrum of social life - so important at that age. If you take it away, it is as if you are amputating something, they feel a part of them needed to function, is gone. This makes them so much easier to mess with and program. It also makes transhumanism so much easier of a jump, for people who are already used to being so interactive with technology. Once anything like that (implantable tech) becomes trendy, humanity is done. So... case in point: the jabs with their nanotech, nanobots, and graphene building blocks.
