Pitbull tries to eat 4 yr old. Mother gets arms ripped off!

1987, I was managing a gas station with a mini mart for one of the major oil companies. Across the road was a used car lot that always had some nice cars. The owner of the lot came to the mini mart for coffee every morning walking his pit bull.
His dog attacked a woman walking inside to pay for her gas. The dog got ahold of her leg and she fell to the ground. While the dog was trying to pull her another customer did just what you suggested, pulled a big folder and stabbed the dog at the base of the skull. He must have severed the spinal cord because the dog just dropped.
I know the woman sued the car lot owner and she sued the oil company. I never found out whether she was successful against the oil company, but she was awarded a large judgment against the lot owner. He ended up closing up a year later and moved away.
Witnessing that event made me leery of pits after that. My oldest daughter has had a pit for 13 years and he’s always been a loving dog. It’s around cats and children and never a problem. He has Cushings disease and hip displasia and is on his last leg. They are putting him down Monday, she sent me a video of him scarfing a steak they grilled for him today.
I love dogs, but some can be scary, and as some have said, it’s usually due to dumb owners.

Unfortunately "hunting dog" owners are blocking the bills that are presented to Legislators. Also Animal Shelters are still adopting them out, this needs to stop. But pittbulls are the majority of dogs in shelters. WHY?

Ok so we have determined on this thread that Pits were once great nanny dogs and have become fucked up due to thug breeding over the past 5-6 decades.

Due to thug breeding, it is nearly impossible, and pit type owners wouldn't, buy a breeding they can verify for say 40 years + back like you can with other breeds. People don't buy like that, they buy cause they want a cute dog or they are kind and saving a dog via adoption.

A good owner is key, but not the end all. I used to have the argument its all about the owner, until a pit with a good owner ate a child in my circle of people, then I changed my mind.

So summary, you cannot fix crazy by being a good owner. If the dog had good genetics 5-6+ generations back, then the owner wouldn't matter that much. That dog costs 3K, you want to spend 250 or zero so your going to get what you pay for.

You need a "good owner" because the genetics have been fucked by the thugs who bred them for fighting many generations before and those traits carry on to current generations.

I would agree that a pit with non fighting breeding is a great family dog, one of the best. But one that has had fighting characteristics bred into it and who's ancestors were brutalized by fighting does not have suitable offspring to be around children. These dogs have been victimized and are not viable for children, sadly because they still need a hug and not just a "nice" owner but an owner who really understands what a good owner really means.

You'll be surprised at the facts regarding the bad name that these breeds of dogs have.

I've owned pits, dobermans, mastiffs. They were highly trained and I trusted them more than most humans.

You have to be an adult to own dogs like pits. Any joe 6 pack or tyrone that wants one just for the looks is a dangerous owner.

Plus all these junk puts being bred in ghettos and trailer parks are so inbred that they're crazy and unpredictable.

As of now I don't have pits anymore. Not becaise of a bad experience but mine died of old age and Ive got too much work and other things happening to give the time it takes to properly train one again.

I do have 4 cats, 2 tortoises, 3 goats, 2 holstein diary cows, a shitload of chickens, and a lab.

I have never had any first hand bad experiences with a pit personally, but my friend had one that "wouldn't hurt a fly" snap one day after 12 years of zero issues. He told me he got up from the couch and was walking to the kitchen to put his dinner plate in the sink and his dog was eating at his food bowl. He said he walked past the dog, and then out of nowhere the thing latched onto his calf and damn near tore his calf off before his wife could bring him his 9mm. Damn thing took 6 shots before it stopped... 2 surgeries later and he still can't walk right. I guess some are just a ticking time bomb.

Pitbulls are some of the sweetest, most gentle with children dogs. They were bred to not attack people. That's why they are not preferred as guard dogs. Thing is they require proper training.

I know Pit Bulls can be dangerous, but who wants to bet that the kid was harming it.

The dog was pissed off for some reason.

Many people do not understand that, and that any type of dog can become violent. This would be informative reading for many who think "pitbulls" need to be exterminated.

My next door neighbor has a pit bull.

I have a smaller Coker spaniel.

A few months ago I was playing ball with my dog in my back yard when I heard a loud banging sound.

Before I realized what it was, my neighbor's dog had been slamming our wooden fence until he busted a hole in it and began chasing my little dog around the yard.

She ran close to the fence all the way around 2 times until she got to me. I opened my backdoor, she ran in and I closed the door while I faced off with the pit bull.

He was growling at me and I yelled at him. "You're a bad dog! Go home right now! As I pointed to his house.

To my shock, the pit bull turned and walked across my yard and back through the hole in the fence that he had made.

My dog is still terrified of the back yard.

My neighbors acted like it was no big deal. They kept saying their pit bull is nice.

They still owe me $500.00 for repairs to the fence.

How to fight dog - bonk as hard as possible on the nose.

Grab both arms and quickly spread arms apart w force.
