They might have changed the laws on these the last few years but you can buy air rifles in the US that will fire a .38 special slug about 1000 feet per second. 10 years ago it was even legal to put a can on it without a class III license since it was not technically a firearm according to ATF rules. All that might have changed. You should look into it. But you can get air guns near as powerful as a mid caliber handgun if you want to pay a little more for it. And you can make them quiet if you want to. |

Pricy? Yes, but considering ammo cost, and tighter and tighter legalities of owning a firearm these days, the modern air rifle has come of age, and you don't need to do federal 4473 paperwork to acquire one. One can be purchased online, and headed to your mail box in minutes. Some of these rifles are perfectly capable of taking large game at close range. Get familiar with them, they are now a worthwhile weapon to own. |

BRIEF User ID: 79662918 United States 12/27/2021 11:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My oldest son had a big angry tom cat move into his fenced in backyard and take over...Their little dog was starving because the cat ate all its food. My son called me up and asked if i would get rid of it. I said sure...When I got there, he had already shot it with a kid's bb gun trying to sting its ass, but it went under the house and went to the farthest corner...barely any light in the crawl space... I took my Stroeger .177 800 fps pellet rifle, and with my cell phone light, I saw his glowing eyes at 50' or so, 16 yards...Laying in the prone position with one hand on the rifle and one also aiming the cell light, I fire for between his eyes and caught the right eye...he was down and couldn't move...Then I had to drag his big dead ass out LOL I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I have shot skunks, possums, coons with it, during the middle of the night and didn't disturb the neighbors.
