From a purely political standpoint, some - some - people into doing anti-conformity, non-conformity, anti-legal activity decades ago did learn to not trust Big Brother and be very skeptical of people into "We Know What's Best."

From what I understand, this wasn't exactly the way things really went down, science always claimed things that are not necessarily what happened. To the first point: I know a lot of very intelligent people who fell in line with the narrative. My brother being one of them. I used to have a lot of respect for him. Like me, he was always going about his life unencumbered by societal norms and mores. He's extremely intelligent, a member of Mensa, degrees in chemistry and law, has patents, etc. He got sucked into the 'science' of it all and fell down the rabbit hole of Gates and Faucism.

In defense of those bamboozled by this mind control - think about how much money, research and effort went into this PsyOps. Billions of dollars. Decades of top secret, mind control research. Everyone is already constantly 'plugged in' with their television, phones, smart technology. A lot of smart people are mesmerized with technology and feel they have to constantly be plugged in with the newest tech. I'm surprised at how many people have alexa in their home and cameras in their home.

To the second point: Yes, the dumbing down of our society over the decades has definitely made it easier to dismantle our Constitution and install leftist, globalist totalitarianism. They removed civics from schools, replaced history with revisionist history and leftist theories. They got kids hooked on consumerism, commercialism and entertainment - all of which contributed to the constant stream of brainwashing. Americans were kept fat, happy, lazy and entertained while their rights were pulled out from underneath them. It's been a long time in the making and here we are today.
