What is happening with Aldi stores? Is there a news black out?

It appears all four of the Aldi stores in my area were closed all day yesterday. They've got only one phone number to call for all of them and when you call it no one answers. There is a message saying due to shortage of workers they don't answer the phones in the store. The corporate headquarters isn't answering the phones either.
Has the entire store chain shut down? Is there a news blackout about this? I can't find any information at all about this?

It's something they don't do - answering a potential customer's questions. worked at Aldi briefly in Germany, it was even more bare-bones there. I flip between Aldi and Lidl to buy the bulk of groceries.
