In fact, I'd go as far as saying that this video is a deliberate distraction from the truth.

I really like watching Henry Gates Jnr's programmes on black family history.

Some of it is utterly heartbreaking. Other histories are uplifting.

But what has surprised me is the large number of black people once freed from slavery who not only kept their owners' names but also lived on the owners' properties, still working for them.

Incidentally, all my life up to 2014 me and my fellow Brits have been paying off through our taxes the massive loan that the British gov took out in 1833 to free black American slaves.

I have skin in this.

Cognitive dissonance is difficult.

We do have cathedrals. Granted, being a much younger country, they don't have the rich history of the cathedrals in Europe; but they are still beautiful and awesome structures.

But you're missing the point. It's that the narrative of how they were built and the means available at that time to accomplish these cathedrals don't jive.

Take a closer look and think about it.

It is more difficult at this point to believe it is true.

They have no reason NOT to conceal the truth, especially anything that would not favour THEM, or perhaps show us a better way.
