The only way...if you were in the country.

I will not pay lic and will not inject my pets to death.

Sorry, but in the city, someone will rat you out.

Well, don't comply.

It is a risk you take.

I have land so I make sure my dogs stay on it.

They are older and trained and at 17 I can out run him LOL

You will have to decide.

I intend to get the dog, and not let the system mess with our pet.

Just getting a bit worried re: what situations could arise. I don't recall any of this hassle existing for any of our family pets growing up, but things were simpler in the 70's & 80's.

I've never licensed a dog.

As to the rabies vaccine? A vet, if you ever take the dog in, is going to insist. And if doggo ever nips someone and does NOT have a rabies tag? Your ass is in the wringer big time.

Re: How can I get around req for vaccinating/licensing a dog?
We want a family dog, and I found all the rescues here give the poor animals TONS of shots (and sterilize/microchip them).

I don't want a Brave New World dog. I want a normal dog.

I found someone with a litter of puppies their dogs had at home (took a long time to find normal puppies not from a breeder, or rejects at a rescue!)

It turns out in my city it's required by law to get them injected and licensed.

I assume the one vet in town are libtards that vax everything to death, judging by all the "stay home stay safe" and "mask up" yard signs they have out front.

How do sane people keep a dog without dealing with all this? Somebody told me to buy the vax vial from pet drug supply, empty it, and attach a note saying the date it was given, then present that as proof. It appears I cannot have that shipped to Minnesota, as all pets must be injected only by a vet here.

I've lived in the country and in the city, never registered a dog. I did take all for rabies shots every year which is usually the only shot required by law and that HAS to be administered by a vet.

You can usually get 8-in-1 shots (for parvo, distemper, etc.) at a regular feed store (not Petsmart, etc.) and give them yourself. If you can't buy them in your own state hop state lines and get it- you don't have to show ID or anything.

I use an old proof of vaccination form from the vet and forge it on my PC, updating the dates.

I do this when ever we go somewhere requiring proof of vaccinations for my dog. Never a problem.

I also do it at campgrounds when insurance is required for my golfcart. Load up my truck policy into the PC and change the vehicle info.

Easy peasy.

Re: How can I get around req for vaccinating/licensing a dog?
Rescue a poor pet from shelter, you don't have to vaccinate after. Who will know. We got our dog from a farm that had litter, never vaccinated. We have lived in cities, unfortunately a city is where my dog picked up parvo once, homemade pedialyte by syringe, pink sea salt, raw honey and water. She was fine in 2 days, homemade dog food too. I made mistake of feeding her a very expensive kibble that was later recalled for pcbs and gave dogs tumors. My dog is almost 12 and very large mixed breed. If you can't find a non vaxxed one, may as well give a shelter dog a chance.

here in the states the only shot that's required is rabies.
you're a good pet owner to not poison your pet.
as far as licensing goes, who would know? just make sure your dog doesn't bite anyone or their dog.
if you have to board him stay away from kennels because they don't want your unjabbed dog and your dog will probably be stressed at one anyway. get a private sitter.

We had dogs for years without a license even though our county requires them. The vet never asked about it and we kept them home in the yard most of the time

Re: How can I get around req for vaccinating/licensing a dog?
Better get an older dog if your skipping vaccination. Parvo can and likely will kill a puppy, the virus itself is nearly unkillable. By the time you know they have it, only a stay at an emergency vet for thousands ($3000 in my case) will save them, and that's no guarantee either.

It's a terrible sickness and they waste away rapidly. At home care, you'd be lucky with a 5% survival rate. Iirc, the Parvo virus remains in contaminated soil for nearly a decade, so even a previous owner at the location can get your new puppy sick. It takes either bleach or extreme heat to kill I think, both of which is impractical considering you can't sterilize a yard.

Get the dog and don’t get the shots or tags.

It’s only an issue if animal control picks them up, and then they merely make you pay a fine and do the vaccines.

This is not a big deal , I promise.

Just ignore it, they are too busy to care anyway. I never licensed my dogs when I lived in town, used to walk by the chief of police's house daily. Only thing he ever said to me was hello.

It only becomes an issue if there is an incident, i.e. dog bite or if called out for constant barking.

Or, if you have to board it.

Re: How can I get around req for vaccinating/licensing a dog?
I had a Papillon that was the smartest dog I’ve ever had. Had a vet that went along with ignoring the rabies vaccine. The dog came down with bladder stones and the vet did the surgery and never questioned the lack of the vaccine. He did however recommend neutering him at the same time he did the bladder surgery. I went along with it and regretted it. The dog was 8 years old at the time.

After the surgery, he gained a lot of weight and ended up having joint issues, arthritis etc. prior to getting his nuts snipped he never exhibited any sexuality or predisposition to behaviors usually attributed to unfixed males.

I have a new papillon that just turned two. He will live his life with his junk intact.

Re: How can I get around req for vaccinating/licensing a dog?
Two ideas:

I know here, if we find a dog, we can take it to a vet and have it scanned for a mirco chip. If it is not chipped, we post in Facebook/Craigslist that it is a found dog and then take it to the pound (our's is a no kill shelter)to be adopted. Maybe, you could, if you all have a kill shelter where you are at, talk someone into letting you foster care for the dog, while you post for the owner. If it isn't claimed, you could keep it.

The other idea, which would be a really, really good Samaritan effort, would be to contact a nursing home you are familiar with and tell them you are looking to take in a dog of someone who is getting admitted. From experience, usually these dogs are not puppies and are good dogs. You can be picky and give a lot of comfort to an elderly person. You might even find someone who has kept their dog "natural" and you could bring the pup back to visit, if you all get along.
