How can I get around req for vaccinating/licensing a dog?

Our practice uses minimal vaccines and titers. Laws vary by state. In NY you can still get medical exemptions for Rabies, which is the only vaccine required by law ( only one in most states)
Parvo and distemper are horrible diseases that cause a lot of death in puppies. 2-3 vaccines for distemper/parvo or distemper/adenovirus/parvo prevent this. When they are due for that booster a year later, we do a blood test called a titer to see if they really need a booster or if they have protective immunity. About 90% are protected at that point.
Rabies is one shot in a pup. Usually given around 6 months of age. There is a cheap titer available but only 2 states accept it as proof. Several states do allow medical exemptions though.
There are tons of other vaccines available but I don't push them, only the very bare minimum.
I don't microchip either.

Lyme vaccine only prevents against Lyme. I see just as much anaplasmosis and nearly as much ehrlichiosis...all of which come from ticks. I preach tick prevention rather than vaccination to prevent all 3 and many more less common diseases.

You see dogs that end up dying of Parvo/distemper?
Do you know if a dog vaxxed for Parvo, and protected from it, could still carry it? As in, could a dog with vaccine immunity from Parvo still spread it in their fecal matter?

If you do go the titer route, make sure your vet sends it directly to Kansas State University. They are the only lab that does both core vaccine titers (distemper/adenovirus/parvo) and rabies titer.
There are two rabies titers. You want the cheap one. The very very expensive one is only required for export purposes.

There is another holistic vet who advocates a method of 'natural immunization' that involves repeated exposures to high dog traffic areas for gradually increasing time periods ( starting with just setting pup down and gradually increasing times by 30 second intervals every few days up to an hour)
A few of my clients have done this and do get protective immunity per titer information but I have held too many dying puppies to advocate. I would still do the titer and see the puppy...I just wouldn't push that method.

In theory it is possibly for a vaxxed or naturally immune dog to still shed virus after an exposure. However it is unlikely to be in sufficient quantity to easily cause disease in other [unvaccinated] dogs for several reasons...lower viral load, maternal antibodies ( BIG reason to NOT start vaccinating puppies before 8 weeks of age or even a little later), and just helping to keep the environmental transmission low.

Also, I tell my clients...I don't report vaccines to anyone. I do have to release rabies vaccine status to authorities if there is a bite incident, but we don't send that info to authorities unless required in that instance. So registering/licensing is your deal. None of my business what you choose to do with the rabies certificate. My job includes informing you of your state laws, not enforcing them.

Also different brands of parvo vaccines work better in different parts of the country. When I worked on the Rez, there was only one brand that worked or dogs still died from parvo.

Your local vet ( as opposed to online order or feed store vaccine) will know what to use.

The vet in town are the same kind of looney toons that fill our human hospitals now. Their website claims it damaged a female dogs health not to spay- that not being sterilized causes cancer in pets. I don't trust their judgement at all!

I'd take the dog to the woods with me. But my parents dog is already chipped. Poor thing, hope it doesn't get early cancer.

Offers free or very low cost care. Our local one does not require proof of income. Anyone can walk in.

I offer a sliding scale and go into many low income areas in our rural community as a mobile vet. Some of my clients pay in venison or home canned goods or other foods or hauling a load to the dump ( I pay the fees) or mowing my lawn ( my equipment and gas) or remodeling my house ( again I pay materials).

Getting the very basic vaccines and spay/neuter at the appropriate age ( depends on size of dog) will help keep costs low going forward and I truly believe keeping vaccines minimal but protecting your pet against those basics will extend their life. My 16yo Bernese Mountain Dog is snoring at my feet as I type.

We do see more kinds of cancer in intact pets ( for one thing they have more parts and hormones to get those cancers). But we also see increases in other cancers from spaying or neutering too early. (Blood vessel and bone cancers). These can occur anyway but recent studies are showing some breeds can have increased rates if spayed or neutered before puberty.

I recommend neutering due to overpopulation, minimizing costs long term....a c section is 1-3 thousand dollars if an unplanned pregnancy doesn't go as hoped, an infected uterus is another very expensive and risky surgery. Male dogs who are intact go crazy if there is a dog nearby in heat and run away, break windows, get hit by cars on misadventures, and often get prostate problems later in life.

Not to mention puppies are literal poop factories. Having a litter at home for fun will wreck your house. I'm talking poop in your dishwasher kind of wreck. It's not for the faint heated.

Gotta laugh- I've officially put more thought into the health of a dog I've not yet even acquired, than many parents are putting into their own human childrens health.

Feed them good stuff no gmo food, no sodium Fluoride water, no vaccines, no tick flea toxins, use Neem oil and coconut oil, for fleas and ticks, keep their natural immunity up and they will not be threatened by parvo which is in the wild and they get natural immunity when exposed to it on walks in rhe wooded areas as puppies, but if you get them these damned shots they will be sickened and not ever be as strong or as able to build their immune system.

No need to spay females either, they are really easy to deal with, they dont bleed very much at all and it is infrequent.

Nor should you castrate males, because it damages their whole endocrine system... bones, brain, organs, everything.

If you can find a vet who will perform the vasectomy for males and tubal ligation for the female cats, it would be good but they dont teach that here in the good ol usa... it is considered animal cruelty in Norway to castrate a dog.

Those people know.
