My guess is they're not actually empty.

It's probably how the government in cahoots with immigration groups are flying "refugees " around the world. The taxpayers are probably paying the airlines for the service and keeping the airlines subsidized and operating.

Airlines pay millions for landing spots at major airports. if they don't use them then its sold to other airlines. Basically use it or loose it.

Almost a year ago, end of Feb, my son flew from Newark or JFK, I forget which at this point, to Thailand, where he is an English and History teacher. The flight went to Japan and then another to Bangkok.

The plane from the USA was one of those huge ones that hold 700 or 800 people and he was one of four- 4- yes only 4- passengers.

It was pretty much the same from Japan.

He heard the same thing- the routes are contracted with the government, not with the airports. And they only way to keep a popular route you don't want to lose is to keep flying the planes.

Flights carry cargo and generate revenue that way.

Plane has to fly a schedule in order for it to be able to pickup passengers and cargo it’s destination.
