Kremlin describes "dangerous and too high" tension on the border between Russia and Ukraine

The Kremlin has assured this Saturday that the tension on the border between Russia and Ukraine is “too high”, according to Dmitri Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, in an interview with the American channel ‘CNN’. The situation is “extremely dangerous for our continent,” Peskov warned.

“We have too much tension on the border, too much tension in this part of Europe,” added Peskov in a fragment of the interview published on the social network Twitter by the newspaper ‘The Hill’.

In this context, the spokesman warned that Moscow wants “a very specific response to its very specific proposals” on security in Europe. Regarding Russia’s alleged plans to escalate the situation around Ukraine, the spokesman described such accusations as unfounded and pointed out that “we live in a world of false accusations.”

The foreign ministers of the European Union rejected this Thursday any demand from Russia to stop the expansion of NATO to Eastern Europe, assuring that it is “unacceptable” that it tries to define the security policy of third countries, as it tries to do with Ukraine and Georgia.

The High Representative for Foreign Policy of the EU, Josep Borrell, and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, held a telephone conversation this Saturday in which they expressed their rejection of Russia’s intention to “rebuild the spheres of influence in Europe”.
