Reserve just released this week’s data. This happens every Thursday at approximately 4:30. Last weeks release showed for the first time ever a -negative balance for 'non borrowed reserves' (2nd column). This is the first time ever this has happened.

Look at the February 7, 2008 release! The Fed is not publishing this weeks data in the current release. So the question that begs is why? There can only be one reason and that is they are in deep-deep shit. The reserve is now out of reserves!!!!!!!!!!

They seem to post data for new dates every 2 releases, which is weird why do they bother to make another release when it's just the same dates? Maybe it's a revision?

About the Release

The H.3 release provides data on aggregate reserves of depository institutions, including required reserves, total reserves, excess reserves, nonborrowed reserves, and borrowings by depository institutions from the Federal Reserve's discount window. The release also provides data on the monetary base, which includes currency and reserves. The release is published weekly.
Current and historical data are also available from the Economic Bulletin Board of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Great catch, Mister Greenspan.

Another hint about this pending crisis is when you do a 'Google News' search on 'federal reserve non borrowed reserves' there is not a single result. There is literally a complete MSM 'blackout' about this. Not only is the fact that last week they were in the negative, now you have nothing about the omitted data.

the banks have -3 billion dollars in NEGATIVE fractional assets.

Meaning they are IN DEBT and have no more MONEY to trade, lend or give to old Mrs Applebee, who wanted to take out "just $11.28" (IAWL)from the Bedford Falls Savings and Loan- can the FED stop the collapse of the banks being sucked down the black hole?

Will Mr Potter finally own all of Bedford Falls in the end?
stay tuned

Not Seasonally Adjusted.

What _I think_ they are doing is auctioning Treasury notes.
They offer $50 billion of notes at a very low interest rate and then bid (auction) up the interest rate on the note to see when some bank will bite and lend them money by purchasing a note.

At some point the banks decide the interest rate Fed is offering is high enough that they want to invest in it and they buy the note.

Think of Fed as a homebuyer in an auction house full of mortgage brokers offering to sign a home loan for first 2.0%, then when that fails, 2.1%, and so on. Eventually one of the brokers puts up his hand. Currently the banks have no money to lend because of the securitisation disaster, so interest rates on the notes have to be high and Fed must print lots of money each month to make payments. So yes, pumping the economy by pouring money into banks, off into the future. Banks are getting a nice ROI for investing in .. nothing.

They post an anouncement( Hit the link) that states that this does not affect the reserves available to the banking funds. And that is an arithmatic fact that we SIMPLY have more money borrowed than in reserve. Hum...

Fed does not make money
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 331956

The Federal Reserve Banks do make money. As our central bank they charge banks for currency delivery, transfer, as well as interest on certain loans to banks. They just don't work with the public, banks only.

As for the Fed being out of reserves, by definition they can never be out of reserves. As the central bank of the United States the Fed is the institution which tells the BEP and Mint to make them money, the only setback is if they have them make more money than is being taken out of the system (via shredding, lost bills, and people saving their money at home instead of in a bank) then you get inflation. The Fed try to manage how much money it puts into the system and offset its negative affects by simultaneously lowering the interest rate when they put large sums of cash into the economy.

BS. Its updated weekly but the data is based on 2 week increments (for recent data). The recent data is always listed as preliminary. This doesn't change the fact that the data is scary as hell. However, there is no lack of publishing.
