Mayor Pete AWOL From what I have heard, 5G has been up and running in Asian countries for years. Is there a good reason why they would be wary of flights through our 5G network but not their own? Perhaps their towers are setup better, so as to avoid infringing on airports? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77947460 Here's the explanation: This only affect planes that plan to fly in and out of the USA.....because of our FAA! It has to do with an FAA rule that went into effect in early December.. As everyone knows, FAA is not worldwide. The FAA does not control what goes on in other countries; they only set rules for the United States. So, the concern for aircraft does not affect any country outside the USA. The FAA rule that went into effect in December: ..... forbids pilots from using auto-landing and other certain flight systems at low altitudes where 5G wireless signals could interfere with onboard instruments that measure a plane's distance to the ground. [link to www.wpbf.com (secure)] 5G relies on radio signals. ... The concern is that interference from 5G transmissions could stop these instruments from working properly, and cause safety problems, particularly when aircraft are landing. Do other countries keep airport approaches clear from 5g or are they just hoping for the best? If so, the FAA, a government agency, is actually right for once. 5g can interfere with radio altimeter assisted approaches in bad weather. In simple terms it means if you crash or not. Good point! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77947460 Early "5G" rollouts were actually just a sort of rebranded 4G-style tech running on traditional microwave frequencies, so telcos could sell idiots the idea that 5G was here already. "5G" is being used an umbrella term for a mix of old and new types of tech just to maximise confusion and keep people in the dark. As they start to roll out millimetre-wave 5G (the real 5G), that's when the fun starts. |
