My local Kroger keeps inching up prices week over week, month over month. It’s the same modus operandi with every price hike: They slap a price increase from 29 cents to 50 cents on an item, but immediately tag it with a “sale price” that was yesterday’s regular price. When the “sale” is over, the item now rests at the higher price. Rinse and repeat, month over month. Items that were $4.99 six months ago are now up to $6.99. All Boarshead deli meats are now up to $9.99 to $14.99 a pound….for sandwich meat. A package of two organic chicken breasts is $12 now. I have two deep freezers completely packed to the top: one with beef, the other with chicken, so when meat becomes a delicacy in this country, I’ll at least be able to enjoy it a bit longer than most people….
