No kidding.. it's freezing in kitchener too.. we have "Out of the cold" programs but i agree, we shouldn't have to.

Yeah, they have good samaritans going around Toronto with sandwiches, blankets and coffee, but really, when we are paying already for infrastructure and social programmes, why are we also having to continually give and people always having to struggle. This is just not right. The governments at the local, provincial and federal levels are robbing us blind and with all their "cutbacks" even though we are having to pay more, they are mis-managing OUR money.

You nailed it. They have squandered out money on Afghanistan and Iraq and other war mongering. Not to mention their huge salaries and benefits packages. That really annoys me that we still pay these politicians after they are out of office and also their families get free dental and medicine too! I cannot even afford dental or medicine. I can go to the doctor but if he gives me a prescription, I can't even afford the medicine, yet these politicians and everyone in their families get covered for life. WTF?

I know what you mean man, it is fucking preposterous, Canada's all so like "oh, we're different, our government cares about people, we're not like the US, we're happy to pay high taxes to fund our superior social programs, cause we're different, we really care, we're not like those other countries, we're Canada"

Then you go to Vancouver, whole areas of devastated people, drug addicts dealing and shooting up on the street, destitute women soliciting openly, then even in the very toniest and posh shopping districts bordering the richest neighborhoods there are homeless sleeping in doorways on every block, and everyone walks by because what can you do? The magnitude of the problem is overwhelming.

But hey, as long as the government pays lip service to high ideals and keeps telling everyone what they want to hear, and as long as everyone keeps believing in high taxes and high spending as a solution to everything, who's going to argue and point out the obvious?

Not for all of them. In fact, like I stated above, the mentally ill and even disabled, are living on the streets. There are working people who live on the streets too because they can't afford accomodations, yet they got to jobs every day. The homeless even built a "tent city" and the pricks came and tore it down on them......

They are just cool like that.. Makes me sick.

The cutbacks in Ontario go back to this Harris guy - also a Conservative, I might add. People actually died on his regime from contaminated water...........

I sure as hell did not vote for him either! Creepy, wooden, cold...........Even this McGuintyasshole in Ontario - he is to blame for a lot of misery but he was better than voting in a conservative to Ontario. Really stuck between a rock and hard place when it comes to who to vote for. They are all bad and you end up having to just choose the one you think will do the less damage.

I know what you're talking about op, I lived in Toronto for 37 years of my life - Just moved up north 1 1/2 years ago... best decision I ever made.

God bless you for caring about the homeless. I imagine that Harris knows the damage he's done by now but he's probably gone too far to ever change - Just like the rest of his cronies I would imagine. They will all have to give an account for their actions one day... as we all will.

It's the working people who can't afford decent food, medicine, dental, proper clothes for their kids, transportation to better their living conditions, people living in stinking basements, people with sore teeth or walking around with pneumonia and can't afford the antibiotics, can't afford to take a class at college to get the extra credits to better their lives...........and the homeless.

Why doesnt the Canadian government and all governments for that matter get on tv and radio and internet and give the people are pep talk and tell them to HELP EACH OTHER ..there are people dying on the streets. Tell them the government will help the private sector.

I believe every once in a while the average people need a pep talk on good spiritual concerns.

I didn't see that thread, but I spoke to you last year about moving to rural areas to get away from the cities. I also lived in Toronto for a lot of years too.

I hear ya man. The gov. holds on to its money like they can take it with them. I've often wondered if they have ever considered the worms that munches on a poor man's bones are the same ones that will be feedin' on theirs. Perhaps they think they'll "make it right" before they buy the farm... yeah, like that'll ever happen. Probably most of them just don't give a damn... "us 4 and no more" mentality. It's hard to stomach sometimes.

Well Harper isn't much better.. when he first got in, the news had a clip of him dropping his kids off at school. When they got up to the door, he shook hands with them before he left. Now that was very strange.
