It is unlikely to actually be smallpox but could be a relative in the pox family either monkeypox, cowpox, other Orthopox viruses, or another member of the Poxviridae family. Chickenpox could also be mistaken as smallpox if severe enough to cause the blisters to form crowded clusters.

A newspaper in Yemen has stated that smallpox has been released.
