Peaceful protest may be effective in some places, but I do not think it is effective in places like China and Australia, because the balance of power between the ruling elite and the people has shifted so far in favor of the ruling elite that they need not care about the opinions of the people anymore.

There's a massive effort in Canada right now to create and share a database of the names and addresses of police officers who have chosen the wrong side of history.
