Smart phones - Android and Apple are far worse for tracking, spying and advertising (and handing over your phone number).

All these things are primarily about creating an advertising ID that can be linked to other logon's and services, but mostly locking people into monthly subscriptions.

For non techies, all you need to know is do you have a copy of your data that can be accessed using other computers.

There are plenty of people creating open source alternatives, for those when they are ready to jump.

The fact is most people are content to pay whatever manufacturers charge for their products and services and tolerate customised promotions and adverts.

The capitalist system of overproduction of almost everything we really don't need, requires someone to constantly tell you how much you need it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81398094

This is absolute truth. Phones are several times worse than a computer and blocking most of the telemetry and spyware is just not possible without changing Android/Apple OS.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82005398

Custom advertising, although real, is just the cover story for the real reasons. They don't care what you buy, they want to watch you, listen to you, spy on you, and "terminate" you if you start figuring out what they're doing and what they are.

And of course phones are worse than computers. They go everywhere with you and spy on you 24x7. Computer sit at home and are turned off, etc.

Sorry Windows 11 is the shit, Windows 11 will have the latest in Directx 12 architecture RTX DLSS Compatiblity as well as GEN 4 NVMe SSD speeds. Who wouldn't want 7000mbps hard drive read and write transfer rates? Fuck Linux
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79464752

You will never see anything near the 7000mbps nvme speeds outside a bench nark. You just exposed yourself nas a fan boy and not tech literate.

Nvme only gets remotely near it's potential when transferring very large files. During day ro day activities, including gaming you will only see a small fraction of it's potential.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75932275

You're nuts. I'm currently as I write this exceeding 14,000Mbps read on a mid range nvme. The servers in my DC are exceeding 24,000Mbps read times.

What you said is opposite in reality; these drives are designed for many small file transfers. Queues at 64k ops.

Say what you want, but this is absolutely nonsense.

Your data is still your data. If you choose to store your data in OneDrive, Microsoft is hosting that as a service.

They're not forcing hardware manufacturers to do anything. Legacy TPM is no longer secure. Windows 11 with Hello simply needs better technology to offer the security they're promising.

Microsoft is a terrible evil corporation but this post is fake news.
 Quoting: th1nk

Keep studying little one
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80365094

I'm sorry but he is right. The only thing that Microsoft did was force the use of TPM as an extra level of security but even this is so easy to bypass.

No software company could ever "own" your hardware, that is nonsense right from the start. It's just not how hardware/software works. Unless you specifically have a hacked BIOS that gives priority access to hardware and even then, patching the hole or changing the OS will be more than enough to bypass it.

The problem with non-techy people is that they can create new ideas and blow them out of proportion without actual facts on how a computer actually work.

Mark my words, they will NEVER be able to control a computer completely by means of a software piece because every piece of software is vulnerable to alterations.

You want some real piece of fun tip?, not even Microsoft can create a foolproof Windows Activation method that cannot be bypassed. It will literaly take you 1 minute to find a proper activation online that can just disable a service or just skip the activation servers or spoof them and bingo, you have a legitimate copy.

They can't protect their own product from illegitimate activations but somehow they managed to take all your data and control your hardware already?.
All will be revealed.

you're using windows is S mode, just remove S mode and it DOESN'T purposely slow anything down.

it's in settings and it downloads a small win store app...runs it and unlocks the installer.

Win S mode...is win full just installer is locked out

it's simple

To turn off Windows 10 S Mode, click the Start button then go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation. Select Go to the Store and click Get under the Switch out of S Mode panel. Then click Install and wait for the process to finish.

Mine is not as fast as yours, but with a simple Software program called SoftRAID which is very cheap I've managed to set 2 MP600 M2-PCI4 up to 8800MB/s quite easily. I'm running off an X570 with a Ryzen 9 3950X

I'm sure if I go for the new Rocket M2 I could achieve 14000Mb/s with that same program. This is Windows 11 and yes I do use RTX and DLSS a lot. They are really nice pieces of technology.

oh you can switch those off LMAO and more you can do just some "special" patches and done

Step 1. Press "Window + R" to open the Run window.

Step 2. Open the "Services Window" by typing services.msc and hit the "Enter" key.

Step 3. Locate and pick the "Windows Update" option from the "Services" list, then click the "Stop" button.

Step 4. Change the "Startup Type" to "Disabled" by clicking on the "General" tab.

done :)

and for telemetry there are also ways not to mention there are so called bloatware versions out which remove tons of things you dont need.

Sorry fan boy, the facts do not support your position.

"But once you get past the build stage, the real-world benefits thin out. If you work with huge amounts of data, you might see a benefit. Users who need to run a huge number of virtual machines or who work with 4K and 8K video, for example, might see benefits to using NVMe in real-world applications. Enterprise users will see a big difference because M.2 NVMe drives have a queue-depth of 1 with room to run 32 commands in that queue. NVMe, meanwhile, has a queue depth of 64,000 with room for 64,000 commands in each queue. Again, that sounds like a huge difference, but most home users can’t take advantage of even a tiny fraction of that. Day-to-day OS use may be slightly snappier than on a SATA SSD. Also, your numbers in CrystalDiskMark and other drive benchmarking suites will be much bigger."

As some others have commented, it is not only the software it is the hardware. From 2006/08 onwards every Intel chipset has a 'management engine' built into them. It has been claimed this is a backdoor, and gives Intel the highest level of authority over your computer and can communicate with network access without your knowledge, even when the computer is switched off. AMD have something similar in their CPU's. Coreboot and libreboot laptops claim to disable the management engine. One issue is that is mostly for old Lenovo laptops like the T430. System76 build modern linux laptops with the Intel management engine disabled as best as possible, but their machines are pricey.

Fuck Windows.

I run linux.

I also run a solid firewall and have custom rules to block rouge outbound and inbound traffic.

Atleast with linux you can look at the code and see if anybody has your shit rooted.

Most people don't fully understand how trivial that shit is these days.

I've run custom exploits in Window10 that gave me full NT SYSTEM AUTHORITY access from remote on my linux terminal...I tested it all out in my lil lab and it's easy to get by all the security shit if you know what you are doing....sure, they have security measures, but it just adds another step to get past it.

Use linux and learn how to use netstat to see your open connections.

If you really want to be a smartass...run a sniffer on your firewall and look at the shit in real time.

Some of us are old enough to remember a time when phones hung on the wall and there were no computers.

Honestly, I welcome the day when we go back to that and start living life again.

We as a collective people have allowed this intrusion into our lives. It needs to go away. Forever.
