Hey Malu how goes it?
I'd like to share some thoughts with him.
But I'd really like to get some people pointed in this direction
who have never even thought of this. It's not difficult and the
amount of food you can produce is really impressive.

I know a little about dirt also.
Just started studying hydroponics
and it is the future of food production.

Many people are learning survival skills and the subject of most survival posts center around guns, gold and bug out bags.

I agree that those are important matters to consider however, they skip a very important, easily learned skill that can produce large quantites of food in a relatively small space even if the soil becomes fucked up - hydroponics.

It is faster, less suceptable to disease, and some have argued more nutricious than soil grown food. It can use 1/20 of the water needed to grow plants in soil and the yeild is phenominal.

For all of you that have shown interest in survival skills, this is a skill you should learn. It can be used for great benifit even if the shit doesn't hit the fan.

aquaponics is even better. fish produce waste, which is used to feed the plants, and you get fish and produce from one system. you can even feed some fish the plants you grew.

deadly easy and been around since ancient times.

When there is little or no electrcity or distribution functioning,
you will not be working hydroponics,
but a shovel.

Nothing a little solar panel and DC pump couldn't cure. ;)

well, you could use algae scrubbers - quite easy to do, and duckweed.

duckweed can be fed to fish and can double its mass daily. the amount of oxygen coming off that type of photosynthetic activity would be significant.

i am actually planning on setting up this type of system on a small scale shortly.

tilapia, tomatoes, lettuce, duckweed, herbs etc.

I would have to agree with you here. Even if the water become s "dirty" you could boil it first to try and clean it up for production.

Tilapia the fish right?
There was a Dirty Jobs episode where they went to a place where they raised, I think trout, maybe, and the used Tilapia to clean the trout "waste" water, was pretty sweet and you could still eat the Tilapia.
