What happens when Russia disconnects
I wanted to start a thread about what everybody thought might happen if Russia goes through with disconnecting from the global internet on the 12th like they had threatened.

Last weekend I would have sworn to you that I had inside information that a cyber attack was imminent which was obviously ended up not being the case.

I think we did get somewhat close to the precipice with the attack on the nuclear plant all the rumors of Nato supplying aircraft for Ukraine, as well as the situation with Visa and Mastercard severely limiting operations in Russia. Leaders seem to be using cooler heads at the moment though.

So I ask will Russia go through with it? Is this the moment they strike back at the west for sanctions? Does absolutely nothing happen?

I believe if they disconnect we are in some very troubled waters and the disconnection could be used as some insulation against reprisal if they conduct cyber operations but I will not make any predictions here because I was wrong before.

Honestly I feel Russia is so resource rich and the times of the soviet union were not so long ago that Putin might weather the storm without a popular uprising. Also I think they have India and China at least indirectly supporting there economy so if might not be a return to Russian bread lines.

Also, what we see on the media here is not what the Russian people see, so as vilified as Putin is here it is almost impossible to gauge his favoribility within the Russian populace.

Russian could never become North Korea simply on the basis even if they completely isolated they are so resource rich that they could pull off an internal economy. There would be some turmoil while everything transitioned but I never see the Russian people starving to death in mass.

What it means for you is you will wonder about them. You would have never had a chance to meet a person from Russia, travel to Russia or experience their culture. It means they could be having a heaven on earth in Russia and you're not invited. It means one is cut off from the other.

For me I don't want to loose them. I want them to be happy, experience joy, have good willed friends with each other, a good government of people, to enjoy life, to just say hi, how's it going, I heard about you, I'm waaaaay over here, wishing you all the best, I don't believe all the bad stuff being said about you all and please do the same for us in the USA.

There are alot more Putin fans out there than you think for whatever reason. I have a college professor that I still speak to from Russia, he is a very smart man and is convinced and will argue to the end of time that this entire situation is the west's fault. So he obviously supports Putin to some degree. One of the problem with the world right now is there is such media bias that a certain percentage of the population immediate take up the exact opposite cause of whatever the media is promoting or admonishing. I often think alot of Putin's support is derived from that at least in the US

Russia isn’t isolated.
Again, the rubes here who can’t delineate between media truth and media lies.
Russia already prepared for this.
They tied the ruble to the Yuan.
They created BRICS
They have economic and military signed treaties with China.

This isn’t about Russia going down, it’s about the USSA going down.

Who’s buying oil from whom? Who owes China 18 trillion in debt?

Some of you rubes truly live in a fantasy world.

I agree on all points, I have never traveled to Russia and now it's probably unlikely I ever will. I have gotten along very well with everyone I have ever meet that has been from Russia.

I have the distinct feeling the Russian media is as unfriendly to us as we have been to them. I has extreme disdain for the way the Russian people are being brought into this because of actions of their government and I fear the day that I am ever held accountable to a foreign nation for the actions of the present administration.

The Russian government might have prepared and as a state I don't see them being vulnerable. However Russian businesses that have international interest will suffer to some degree and in turn some of the population with have to endure some hardships at least temporarily

Russia and China are partners. The USD collapses, China issues a SDR, in an Asian basket. BRICS join. The Euro collapses. More countries join the Chinese SDR. Yuan becomes global currency. Russia will be 100x stronger than they are now. UN weaker. NATO disbanded. Stability in most nations except in Europe and North America. Rat faces flee to Israel. Iran launches attack. Peace on earth.

To a degree yes, I would have swore to you that something was in the works last weekend which never happened. I know alot of people are very much on edge where I work, and being in a big city with younger children I'm somewhat vulnerable if something ever does happen, we have a second property which would be a good place to run away to but if all hell breaks loose I'm probably stuck working.

I'm glad today everyone seems to be taking a step back but this has been so many unexpected turns. I would have almost guaranteed you that Russia would have never invaded because I didn't see the strategic value of doing it and was pretty wrong there

I believe / hope that our leaders understand if Russia and China become partners there will be global economic upheaval and a huge shift in the power balance. I think you see alot of effort right now to undermine relationships between some of Russia's allies and Russia because western leaders are aware of this potential

It’s a trap so western attackers rush in during the supposed window easing the problem of having to identify them via more invasive means, ie deep packet inspection and side-channel decryption attacks.

Underestimate is the word of this situation. I think Putin did Underestimate the strength and resolve of the Ukrainian forces. I think the west really underestimated the potential for this to get to where it is now. I think Biden Underestimate the potential economic impacts from his actions.

If Russia does disconnect from the world I think I'm scared war will escalate further and openly involve other countries in some capacity.

Alot of people (most of whom I disagree with) believe this is the inevitable fate of Russia. Anyone hopeful this happens has to understand, it will involve many regions that have disputed borders as well as areas that their is cultural hatred between factions. Meaning destabilization in a region with the most nuclear weapons in the world. I can't grasp how the would be beneficial to anyone. Moreover, everyone who I have ever heard mention this idea, either openly or subtly admits that this just makes it easier for economic exploitation of the region.

I think as a state Russia was prepared but if this is to work for the Russian people they will have to endure some hardship which seems to be an axiom of Russian culture so I wouldn't bet against Russia righting the ship and coming out stronger.

Your location is shown as being from Russia what's your feelings? Are you ok to endure a temporary lifestyle change to enable this?

So not the best tech guy can you explain side-channel attacks?
In layman's terms does this mean discover those making cyber exploits so you can directly respond to those doing that?

I'm assuming that you believe the line will simply be terminated, but I foresee different situation.

There are indications that a singular Higgs Boson will be substituted for the entire Russian connection. Since it has been connected to the entire internet since 2009, it should have the comparable mentality of an average American 13-year old.
