Yep, exactly that just happened to my neighbor while she was in a shopping plaza on Thursday -- she was gone for less than 20 minutes, and her CC was sawed off.

Crazy.

Neighbor said she was told people are trying to buy locks for their gas tanks and a store said someone had wiped out their inventory. However, they cautioned that if you don't let a thief have easy access, they are puncturing gas tanks which would cost more to repair than to buy more gas.

If you steal gasoline that is worth less than $900, it's free!

Jerry Hess Hess oil sold all his gas stations in Florida because the Californians were shooting blue ray from their camera phones into the pumps stealing money . Which Jerry said , no more money the Florida government will ever make off of me...Ever ever again.

It's not as easy as it used to be to steal gas. Almost all cars nowadays have an ant-slosh barrier at the bottom of the fill tube.

I'm in Central Maine police just put out a warning about heating oil theft,
people are siphoning oil right out of your tank.

many cars the gas is hard to steal

the tank is mounted in the center and the car is low to the ground - so on most little cars their ain't much room to get to it

and the gas spout is anti-siphon as a rollover safety feature

and you can add a locking gas cap

I'm not in California but I work at a car dealership and we replace many that are cut off and stolen and yes many in broad daylight.

And so far two fuel tanks. Can't get into them thru the fuel filler snd syphon them, but they have been puncturing the tanks and just draining them.

That will probably get worse.
