Self driving commercial trucks | |
JustinCastro User ID: 79384929 Canada 03/20/2022 10:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They should never be allowed on the road. Period. But they will be. I think they’ll only ever haul from terminals, warehouses or port facilities or on other types of point A to B dedicated runs. They will never be able to navigate tight unpredictable traffic situations to deliver to smaller drop off points. But there will be a lot of bent fenders & dead motorists before they finally realize their limitations. Hopefully they run over a larger percentage of Democrats so there’s a plus to the whole experience. Uncle Raul |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 82533134 United States 03/20/2022 11:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Self driving commercial trucks is a flawed concept. Sure they can go down the road but I’m wondering how they can navigate congested traffic at intersections or back up in tight parking lots. If they ever develop a reliable self driving semi, it would only be used by operations specifically developed to start, the route and the destination as part of the design. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77610649 Any thoughts from truckers? In order for them to really succeed, they will need to put sensors into the roads and 5G towers along the path. As technology moves forward 5G towers will be able to be spaced further apart. |

Quoting: JustinCastro You say they should never be allowed on the road but there's been self driving trucks on the road and being used in development for the last 5 or so years now. Tesla's cars have unveiled FSD now and their trucks aren't far behind. You have the Waymo trucks as well and a couple others. I hate stupid people |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77610649 Any thoughts from truckers? O/P they haven't worked out how to make driver-less trains and subways yet, and all they need is a pretty basic signalling and monitoring system. Good point. Also they would have self flying cargo or passenger planes. |
