Earthquake Swarm island of São Jorge Island is la Palma reawakening p.3

More than 100 quakes of magnitudes between 2.0 and 2.9 occurred during the last 24 hours beneath the island. Therefore, we have set up a new page to monitor earthquakes under São Jorge Island, Azores.

The volcano of 1808, that we witnessed erupt from Lagoinhas, along the massif that lies to the north of the village of Urzelina, also expelled from the locality of d’Entre Ribeiras, a league to the north-west of that area and then later in the area of Areias; the first tongue expelled for many days great quantities of material: for seven days the sun was obscured from the density in the atmosphere, impregnated with volcanic vapors; there were ash showers; the island suffered many and violent concussions; the soil in the neighborhood of the volcano opened deep cracks; these faults opened in areas 88-132 centimeters. This volcano ran to the sea, without interruption, leaving the ground covered in lava to a height of 990 centimeters, approximately.

Sounds like in 1808 This Wolcano did some damage...

My young adult son just moved to Puerto Rico..would this affect him ? My geography is terrible !!!

This one is surrounded by a bunch of islands though, definitely not as doomy as La Palma

Yeah I agree the impact would not be as devastating as la Palma but it's worth keeping a eye on,

I've been following the Azores since La Palma. It had to a sudden uptick about 3 days ago.

Yeah, I was just looking at the larger ones. I saw another article that said 1000 within several days. Wow!

I've been watching them & Gibraltar ever since Texan Buckeye got me interested in them.

These suffocating gases, which were probably carboxylic acid, were harmful to the population; the thick water-vapor, which condensed in a reddish color, rapidly spread unnoticed through the local vegetation (a mix chloric and sulfuric acids) which were expelled as aqueous vapors.

This is vary different from other eruptions, veggie and small to large animal will be heavily effective if it goes hot.

In the statement sent to the newsrooms today, the IPMA stresses that the significant increase in the frequency of seismic activity on the island, which was detected since the afternoon of last Saturday, March 19, “has continued until this moment”.

According to the IPMA, “more than 1300 earthquakes” have been recorded since then, with epicenters distributed in a direction close to the alignment of the island, “between Velas and Pico da Esperança”. The magnitudes vary between 1.2 and 3.6 on the Richer scale, with the largest earthquake occurring in the first hours of the seismic crisis.
