Yeah there's this "firmament" dome enclosing our sky, yet huge space rocks literally collide into the planet and leave craters.

They don’t. Those purported craters are actually eruptions of gas and other volatile substances that leave a crater, like a volcanic eruption. Asteroids are a NASA fantasy.
