Question: Patriot Savings bonds EE series. Cash before crash?
My daughters inherited a small amount after their Grandmother died..

Received an envelope with $350 in patriot bonds, series ee for each.
They are adults, it won't mature until 2037, some years around that..

I would have never invested in bonds, I invested in our needs and didn't have $$ to fund things beyond what was needed. A good family budget kept us fed, roof overhead ETC.

I dont know much about bonds other than what I have learned online.
IMO, it is not a great idea for them to wait until maturity in 20 years from now +

Taxes?

I suggested they cash the existing bonds ( valued at $200) and invest in silver or something.

May I please ask for input on this?
Thank you!

and i just mean that because of the fees. youll eat a loss selling the bonds then buying and selling the silver. so youd want this small hedge against deflation. then go silver with extra money

there's truth to that. I am just equating the fees and the fact were facing a mass die off, there is a chance this deflates like youve never seen before. who knows tho

I did.. They range from 2005-2011
$50-100 a year per kiddo, for Christmas

They will be in their early 40's when they mature.

I kinda think for the gain in they might be better off cashing them in. They could use the money right now for gas and what not.

But thats just me..
Crazy, someone would invest in something that earned %.5 in 30 years

As their mom, the best I could do was save coins.. have a heavy amount now.. I worry about them being able to move it!

One of the bonds, the 2011 one matures in 2041.. That seems so far in the future!

That was my thought too.. Die off, GOV going down and inflation.
IMO she should buy tires needed for her car now
