It doesn't surprise me. My favorite album of all time, The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails was ghost written by the producers Flood and Moulder and played by session musicians. It's hilarious when I watch interviews with them about making that album, it's always about how they came up with this bass part of that guitar part, and Trent Reznor is just sort of like oh gah lee I wrote the lyrics lols.

Good doc.. popular music is full of ghostwriters and beat makers selling to greedy artists

Even bands/artists known to write their own stuff often let producers shape/organize

Too bad the artists who write/produce aren't better identified because they're lumped in with everyone else, who don't

It's ok though, sheep don't care about recording artists if poser performing artist take the space

Pretty sure Glen Campbell was in the wrecking crew. All they were were session musicians, it was common knowledge session musicians played on other peoples records. Hendrix and jimmy page were session musicians also.

"ALMOST all the music and bands are NOT doing the music themselves.

Not even remotely true. Many\most of those bands especially 60s-70s and 80s had musicians easily as good as a session musician.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79229108

Learned 'gentle on my mind' with the D - Dmaj7 - D6 - Dmaj7 end of line riff, then watched Glen Campbell live and v. surprised to see that even a great like him was playing the Dsus4 trill poor approximation. Great song I haven't played in years. Wonder if I can remember it without looking it up.

What I cannot stand is the autistic insistence that a completely interchangeable, compositionally mediocre musical amanuensis jotting down parts hummed by an original mind can take any more credit for a finished piece than, say, Shakespeare's Secretary taking dictation.

I don’t think they did Elvis
 Quoting: PEEBALLS

Yep Elvis too.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79953351

ELVIS did his own singing but couldn't play the guitar. He just held the guitars and pretended to play them and used them as a prop. Common knowledge.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82257974

Bullshit, he was an excellent guitar player, you filthy talentless heab.

Yes the wrecking crew wrote and recorded rush 2112.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79105077

Don't be stupid. But when the wrecking crew retired, guess who stepped into their shoes... Younger musicians, who then did work for all the 70's artists.

Now 80's and beyond, its all fake and computerized.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79953351

They didn’t retire, they were no longer useful and a few of them went from millionaires to broke.
Did you even watch the documentary?
There was no next generation wrecking crew.

if you were a real musician back in the 90's I'd laugh at people who thought 91nchNails was cutting edge

you could pretty much get the same sound running a drum machine through some distortion pedals

big whoop, no talent
Same with M Manson, all hype, thought it was quite fitting how the cross fell on him on stage a few years back

Kiss was real , I was there and saw it
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79736903

SORRY DOESN'T MATTER.... They were porting the music, as shown in the documentary so even live, and TV was the studio musicians and not your FAV band.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79953351

Vinnie Vincent from kiss was one of these session players...

He's got a lot of tunes out you wouldn't think we're him.... Some disco classics actually
