Those are spoofs. From alien tech. They are holographic in nature.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82715471 a hologram can not be projected into the air. it must be reflected by something. have you ever crossed two beams of light? there is nothing to see where they cross. get a two laser pointers and cross the beams, nothing. note you can not see the beam unless there is fog or smoke in the air. most likely our own tech being tested and not all on board are privy to the situation. this way they can test but not start a war if something were to go wrong.
