Hospitals Make $120 Billion While Skirting Federal Transparency Law
Three of the largest for-profit hospital chains in the U.S. made a combined $120 billion in 2021, while violating federal transparency laws, according to an investigation by Patient Rights Advocate.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2021, the Affordable Care Act required hospitals to be transparent about what they charge patients.

None of the HCA Healthcare system’s 118 hospitals were compliant, the report found, and those three large systems made a combined $120 billion.

This is, has always been, and will forever remain the problem.

If a HUMAN violates a law he goes to jail.

If a CORPORATION violates the law most likely nothing at all happens. But a worst case scenario it will have to pay a fine amounting to 0.000000000000000000003% of its annual net profit. Basically they spend more on having the floors waxed than the most punitive of government fines.

non-profit hospital outfits are just as bad.

Christiana Care is the largest employer in the state of Delaware now.

Our local hospital was turned into a city owned trust many years ago. They are answerable to no one, not even city council. They are the richest entity in our city with the only exception being the largest University in Oklahoma. More buildings are being built and planned after they raked in huge profits from killing folks with rona.

Hospitals and banks seem to be the only entities making huge profits these days.

Look at THC, their history of medicare fraud and the fact that the current Blackretary of Defense was on their board.
Their gains past 2020 are probably mostly fraud.

HCA is an egregious org headquartered in Nashville. I stopped a panel interview because it was such an awful interview, thanked them for their time and explained that I could not work for an org like this if this was representative of their culture. Of course, they became defensive and even nastier. Oh well.

My BIL was part of the exec leadership team years ago and left because they are a horrible org.

FWIW.

Except it isn't. It's CRONEY capitalism who's goal is communism. Look at how it's made the corporations more powerful than the government. I know the u.s. government is crooked but at least there's some regulation of private companies who's only goal is profit; even if it means poisoning the earth.

Perfect example is the Ford vehicle company near Flint Michigan when it demanded clean water to wash it's vehicles instead of the caustic flint water so the governor let Ford Motor Company divert fresh water for cleaning their vehicles while that same fresh water was denied to help the people of Flint, MI.

Another 'funny' story is how blood donors many times donate for free.. Their BLOOD...

... to the Red Cross, who in turn sells that blood to various hospitals.

So it's not ethical in many states or in most of Canada - to pay for a blood or plasma donation to the actual donor... but the Red Cross can sell it per pint for a lot of money...

From an article in 2006:

Red Cross to Charge More for Blood
By Anjetta McQueen
6 January 2006, 08:59

W A S H I N G T O N, May 23, 2001 -- The nation's hospitals will pay more for blood collected by the American Red Cross, which plans to raise its prices by July to help pay off debts.

Red Cross officials said today that they could not say howmuch the price would increase nationally.

"Safety and availability is our No. 1 priority," saidJacquelyn Fredrick, who oversees collections and distribution forthe Red Cross. "We want to be able to ensure tomorrow's bloodsupply by investing in today's."

'Critical Blood Shortages'

The Red Cross, which supplies about half of the nation's donorsupply, is telling hospitals of its plans to raise the cost of apint of blood. National officials say the prices are beingdetermined by local blood centers.

Indiana hospitals, for example, have already learned theirprices are rising 10 percent to 35 percent.

The typical pint of red blood cell product now costs $130 to$150

After it became public knowledge that hospitals were eligible to receive up to over $100,000 per victim provided they checked all the right boxes……….

A woman who works for the misses went to the emergency room a little over a year ago one weekend because of heart attack symptoms. Even after it was indeed confirmed a heart attack they still put her on a vent.
