I work with wholesalers and retailers all over North America, for the most part lead-times for imports are coming down and they are able to back-stock shortages.

It takes a while for shipping to cease before the ships stop coming into port.

Steaming time across the Pacific is 2 to 3 weeks ... then there is a 6 to 14 day wait at LA/LB port here (depending upon the ship). After that there is the transit backlog in LA to get the stuff moved out of the port and onto the trains heading east, call it another 4 to 7 days.

Overall it takes Chinese goods 4 weeks to 7 weeks from when they leave port until they even show up at the distribution warehouses where they spend at least a week before they can be turned around and sent out to retail locations, for many companies it takes them 3 to 6 weeks.

Since the port has only been closed for 2 weeks NO shortages should be showing up yet. The EARLIEST you would start to see any shortage on the retail store floor would thus be about 4-5 weeks after the port shutdown, and for most items 8 weeks is a more reasonable time projection.

For parts needed for industrial production the shortages are going to show up MUCH faster since those items are prioritized at each stage of the supply chain. For them spot shortages will start to show in 3 weeks and extensive shortages will be appearing in 5 weeks.

LEAD IN FOR A MAY INVASION of Taiwan? (May and October are the only good weather months for a cross channel invasion) ie: parts shortages for manufacturing already occurring all over the place in the US when China moves ... thus giving policy makers pause on Chinese sanctions.

We have to live with it and we can't live if we are being held hostage by our governments using covid as the excuse to take away all our rights and freedoms and usher in tyrannical communism and death by planned starvation.
