irreplaceable catalytic functions in industrial chemical engineering.
...part of the bedrock of modern civilization.
Without supplies of the noble metals, we simply don't have life as we know it.
Of course, that essentiality leads to varying prices depending on supply & demand.
And when the "modern" part of civilizations goes poof, demand for the noble metals will poof too;
only food n water will matter..
