Can we have just ONE useful SURVIVAL THREAD? | |

I'm not a complete retard you know, I know more stuff than an average dumbed-down citizen for sure. I wanted to have this thread for SHARING information - it's not just to educate me - it's for all of us. And I am reading through also that 300-page thread that was linked in the beginning of this thread, lots and lots of great info there. Having said that, I actually have a question. Has anyone done a calculation or a chart on magnifying glasses, what are the border values for creating a fire? I mean how much sunshine vs diameter of the glass vs magnification of the glass? The idea would be to find the best compromise between function and mobility. And I don't want to buy 20 different ones to test to find one. The Sun strength is a variable. time of day and sun slant angle is a variable. Atmospheric transmissivity is a variable. The cleanliness and clarity and magnification power of your lens is a variable. wind speed, humidity, tinder dryness, tinder content, ambient temperature, etc. are all variables. To give a meaningful answer, you would need about $100,000 worth of equipment to measure all that crap, both the create the table and to use the table. Or you could just carry a lighter and a ferro rod. :) (They even work at night, or in the rain, when you are freezing to death. :) Justme |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80684507 United States 04/27/2022 01:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I moved off grid last year. Just get what you think you'd want to go camping in the backwoods in December. A small camp stove, portable wood stove, good sleeping bag etc. Plan to make urself comfortable for at least the first 10 days, so you can gather Intel and make logical decisions on ur next move. After u acquire that security, get what you think you might need to camp in the backwoods in July. Cover from sun, sunscreen, bug repellent, cheap solar shower, water filter, fishing tackle and so on. Best purchase I made was a small solar generator and 100w solar panel. All my flashlights, lanterns, shower are rechargeable. I rarely use my full solar set up. Just remain calm, think decisions through and don't over prep. Some of these people have a years worth of crap. You WILL eventually run out or be murdered for ur supplies. Keep it simple and mobile. People who hole up for six months won't know how to get by once their supplies run out. Everyone else will be established survivalists. Idk, just my thoughts |
