Actual "manufacturing" is doing very well. The exception is GM and Ford.

Despite the "American" hate world-wide. The U.S. has one of the most skilled, literate and the most productive workforce on the planet. Despite slowly falling fast into the world mediocrity, when it comes to invention and technology, we still have some of the most advance production methods in the world. This allows for diversity, reduction in cost, fast turn around and accuracy. Manufacturing is actually doing very well, look it up when you have the time.

You are right about unemployment, but it might be a perspective thing. If you live in Texas, like I do, you don't know what unemployment means. I most of the major cities in Texas businesses are suffering, not from the economy, but from not have enough "labor" to support their business.

Massive debt, should be rather hard to deny, I don't get that one either. Probably to much booze, sports and porn.

I think the foreclosures is also a perception thing. There is tons of places that are not being as negatively affected by it. So basically, you may not notice, unless you live in those areas.

Honestly, I think most people change the station or turn the pages when the matters come up. Porn, sports, Hollywood and booze. Sad but true.

well, i'm in manufacturing and have been for 25 years. i posted a thread a few days ago after meeting my state senator. here are the facts. In Illinois over the last 3 years, 325,000 manufacturing jobs were lost and 200,000 GOVERNMENT jobs added.....how does that bode for the future. also, 3.5 MILLION manufacturing jobs were lost since 2004...what replaced these jobs??? you think an industry can lose 3.5 million jobs and be considered healthy??

gm had sales of 45 billion and lost 40 billion. someone on here correctly pointed out it was like gm gave every car away. Airlines are consolidating but bleeding money. What do you think is being made here anymore??

I didn't say manufacturing was actually "growing", I just said it was doing well. It has shrunk, and will continue. Technology removes jobs, does not increase them. They continue to profit and profit even more so. I was just trying to show you, that someone who pays some attention would know you were wrong if you said "manufacturing base gone". I think it sucks that GM and Ford are toast. I want more jobs for this country.
