Crunch62 User ID: 49285406 ![]() 05/11/2022 08:48 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My neighbor used to own the gas station a few blocks away and gave it to his son to run, but his son sold it two years ago without telling him. Quoting: BFD Tore him up. Anyways, the lot is vacant and the new owners haven't put anything there yet. Sort of weird, I guess... Not really. He probably sold it to get out of the EPA liability. Old tanks or leaking tanks need to be repaired or upgraded at a huge expense. The EPA could just walk in, and it your fuel books were not current, it was 10,000 dollar fine a day... I don't doubt it. I worked at a gas station/tire shop down in So Cal when I was about 18. There was a small box mounted on the back wall that started making a buzzing noise one day. After a few days, we were all getting tired of the noise, so I took the cover off and saw it had 2 D batteries inside. I took the batteries out and the buzzing stopped. I had no idea what it was. A couple of months later, some state inspector came by and saw the dismantled box. He lost his mind. It turns out it was a leak detector for the underground fuel tanks, and it had detected a leak, hence the buzzing noise. The shop owner got reamed by the state and the EPA. Hell, I had no idea what it was. I just knew it was annoying. Last Edited by Crunch62 on 05/11/2022 08:50 PM What the Hell?... |

But it was just a plain gray metal box. It had no information on it, no warning labels or anything. If it had a label that said 'underground tank leakage warning' or something like that, I would certainly have contacted somebody. But no info/no training meant I kept my job. Sad, actually if you think about it. That was a long time ago. What the Hell?... |
