Whats the best breed of dog to have in the upcoming doom, prepper situation?

Norwegian Elkhound. The Viking's dog. Great wool fur for clothes. Hunts big game like Elk, Moose and Bears. Non- aggressive breed, but mine stood up to a loose pit attack and a loose German Shepard attack in fights without a scratch, because of his thick fur and hide.

Dogs need food and water. Just another mouth to fed. Better off without them.

My German Shepherd is as loyal and protective as they come.

Nobody will ever fuck with me while she has a say in the matter.

A dog will give your position away unless its trained extremely well.

Not something I'd rely on.

cats are better at not reporting your drug stores and such.

a quick bullet can end that,, but that said I always when I was a teenager.. took my half wolf half collie shepherd type dog when hiking along mountain trails and the dirt roads...

Sable German Shepherds hands down

Only a moran would take down your dog without taking you out first.

The dog that gave your position away would be left there wondering wtf happened.

In a close encounter you'd be lucky to have a few seconds before you're downed after the dog.

The biggest one with the most meat on it...in a 'proper' shtf situation you'll be using it as a food source sooner rather than later

If commandos are in the are in the area, she will alert me to that as well and I will be able to react unless I'm first on the list.

Everyone around me has dogs and perhaps well armed. Ya never know. If a gang comes into this area, they better come down the road with guns ablazing, but they could just be committing suicide.

A good guard dog is a valuable resource.

I like mutts. A mix of two hunting dogs. I have 2 dogs now. A pit mixed with Dotson. We call her the beast of the east. She scares a lot of people with her bark. But she is a ferocious snuggler. So she is a security and emotional support dog in one.

Then we have a Coonhound mixed with Chesapeake bay retriever. She is not very smart, but is good-natured and is great at retrieving. Her bark is something else. She would be a great hunting dog. We call her the spaz of the south.

Mutts are healthier and live longer, less genetic problems. But you would need a Breeding pair, so they could have puppies.

I got an amazing working dog Can snatch a quail on the fly jump fences with it in his mouth and not injure it!
He will heard chickens rabbits back to their pens! protects them from everything.
His daddy was a rott shep mix mom a aust shep and border colie.

On the down side he barks alot!

Yep the Australian cattle dog.
Loyal, skittish, quiet, aggressive, efficient, and always alert.
Great for raiding, hunting, and finding things but a German Sheppard is a better defensive dog for an area.
Keep cats, and know where the cat hoarders are, grain protection, or emergency food..

That as smart as these dogs are they need a very experienced owner and lots of work put in to bond with the family. I dont think we have that kinda time left.
If you mean about the false alarms, They are very smart, they will try to figure out a situation and deal with it themselves before alerting you. Some dogs bark an anything. Some dogs are more disciplined when it comes to blowing their cover Belgiums and Dobermans well known for sneaking up, on bad guys without barking.

And they live long for a large dog. Have wanted one for years.

None. They make too much noise.

Preferably a terrier, that can dig, with a good coat for winter that can hunt and fetch a vermin meal for you and itself. I think somebody would be better off mobile than stationary. Lots of prairie dog protein in South Dakota and North Dakota and Southwest Minnesota.
