The back of the hole is clearly wedged shaped caused by two fractures crossing each other at like 30 degrees or so.

The wedge piece just fell out.

Are you? There is no hole there LOOK. Both sides go back to the same sharp inside corner. It's more like a pie cut certainly not a square open tunnel. You can actually see both the fractures continuing up the exposure at the same angle as the sides of the opening. You are seeing the right side almost straight along the wall and the left side at a more oblique angle. The wedge piece that fell out appears to be in the foreground. It may have split more with time and/or partially buried with the frequent sand storms.

Plus the scale of matrix shows it may only be like a foot or two high. It's not a giant opening. It's simple geology and fracturing. I see cross fractures like this all the time in sedimentary layers.

There are so many places on Earth that are off limits, so those rovers could very well be in one of those places.
