There are lots of words that are similar and come from the same Latin root word but mean something completely different.

The common meaning per the dictionary: rapture noun 1. a feeling of intense pleasure or joy Example: "Leonora listened with rapture" ecstasy bliss euphoria elation exaltation joy joyfulness joyousness 2. (according to some millenarian teaching) the transporting of believers to heaven at the Second Coming of Christ Example: "thousands of Christians gathered outside Rochester and other cities, awaiting the Rapture" That is totally different than the meaning in Latin. I run into this all the time as I switch between English and Spanish. Similar words with very different meanings. it's not different but the same... for Christians the Rapture means being carried away literally but bliss elation etc means getting carried away metaphorically, they are the derived meanings .... the original meaning was to snatch, carry off it's indeed very much the same as the Christian fundamentalist meaning
