I've traveled the world and although you may make a couple of real friends in other countries, in general the Yanks are pretty much despised except for their money.

The best medical care I've ever received was in Mexico City and Thailand.

In fact, I've flown several times to MXC from the 'medical hub' of Houston for better medical care, and including flight and hotel, it was less expensive than in the US.

Through my wife i got my 2nd passport, along with our kids. I think i trust my wife, that her country of origin is safe and welcoming to us. The biggest thing is learning the language here, most people only speak Spanish. I never studied it, in fact I studied German and French, I picked it up through immersion but I'd reccomended studying at least some wherever you go.

Similar situation here, but I went to an isolated area and made an effort to assimilate. I'll never go back. The beaucracy in this country is insane, but the way of life is worth it.

An earlier poster mentioned high property prices in Europe, this may be true in Northern Europe, but if you can deal with it, look to places a long way from the cities. Your 300k will buy you a farm if you shop smart.

Look at some of the Greek islands, good climate, relaxed living and great food, if that's your thing. Many expats everywhere too.
