I'm still 5 years away from being able to retire so still running a business which requires a bank account to process payments, pay vendors, etc. I think US banks are going to collapse and take our money with them. Collapse of the supply chain and exponentially increasing shipping costs will put me out of business pretty soon if they don't shut me down for wrongthink first. Feds will print their way out. I agree that shipping costs will kill globalism but that means... building local relationships. Right? The liberals like to quote that study which shows blue States as net payers and red States as net takers but they always factor out the Federal debt. Including it makes ALL States net takers. That's what's still holding the ship together. Once that reverses, and being a Federal State means PAYING to DC instead of RECEIVING, a lot of pre-existing fractures will come into play, you saw the old Southern State lines appear in the last election. I expect the PNW to secede, along with Texas and most of the South. That will end the Federal empire. Basically a repeat of the USSR collapse. . ... If you're a MAGA/patriot it won't be long before you're hunted down as a domestic terrorist and sent to the re-education camps being prepared for the Great reset. Your children will be confiscated and fed to the paedophiles. Who would ever have thought, Babylon will burn. Too long America has lived the good life at the expense and suffering of lesser nations. Of course none of them thought they would end up among the majority of expats who moved back where they came from, but most of these folks now have. Honestly Uruguay tempts me. I'm sitting on my balcony enjoying the springlike weather that's about the same every day, no need for heat or A/C, gas, electric, water and sewer are ~$35/mo, cable, phone and internet ~$28/month for double the speed in the US so it works out to about 1/8 the price. Good full coverage health insurance with the best company is under $50/month and as head of the houshold covers my wife and daughter at no additional expense. Is it perfect? No, nothing is, but it's a damn nice change and I can't really think of anything I'd change. I certainly can't imagine downgrading and moving back to the US. Sounds like you’re in Medellin. It’d even better outside the city with growing season 24/7 and about 15 degrees F cooler once you get to the other side of the tunnel. Yes, city just north of Medellín.
