why do you need to keep money in a bank?

cash out to physical metals etc.

keep a minimum in accounts.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83249340

I would if I could. I'm still 5 years away from being able to retire so still running a business which requires a bank account to process payments, pay vendors, etc. I think US banks are going to collapse and take our money with them. Collapse of the supply chain and exponentially increasing shipping costs will put me out of business pretty soon if they don't shut me down for wrongthink first.
 Quoting: Zetetic Ben

Feds will print their way out. I agree that shipping costs
will kill globalism but that means... building local
relationships. Right?

The liberals like to quote that study which shows blue
States as net payers and red States as net takers but
they always factor out the Federal debt. Including it
makes ALL States net takers. That's what's still holding
the ship together.

Once that reverses, and being a Federal State means PAYING
to DC instead of RECEIVING, a lot of pre-existing
fractures will come into play, you saw the old Southern
State lines appear in the last election. I expect the
PNW to secede, along with Texas and most of the South.

That will end the Federal empire.

Basically a repeat of the USSR collapse.

Not for long.

If you're a MAGA/patriot it won't be long before you're hunted down as a domestic terrorist and sent to the re-education camps being prepared for the Great reset.

Your children will be confiscated and fed to the paedophiles.

Who would ever have thought, Babylon will burn.

Too long America has lived the good life at the expense and suffering of lesser nations.

Turning a blind eye so that one can continue to live in comfort makes one a complicit hypocrite.

Time has come to pay the piper.

Lots of luck -- whatever country you may pick, it's likely more complicated than it looks to get set up there unless you're quite wealthy, a Nobel prize winner or something.

Note that Andrew quotes a Uruguayan official "we are not contemplating the raising of taxes at this time" -- heh heh heh.

I have a number of friends who've left Dixie for Latin America. Of course none of them thought they would end up among the majority of expats who moved back where they came from, but most of these folks now have.

Honestly Uruguay tempts me. I frequently research it, but I know I couldn't take the massive changes in lifestyle.

I've tried having conversations like this here before. The complete xenophobia and ignorance is shocking. My top place to live would be Greece. Was there again last summer and it was spectacular. Apartments from $200 in a village and $400 in Athens. It's not cheap like Colombia but it's stunning, great weather and close to many other cool places.

Agreed brother... but where do we go? At some point sooner or later we will all fall under govt. control, all of us will. Best bet is to not ask questions and just go, bug out. Dont say where you are going. Once you are there and settled get rid of your US passport, be a local.

Yes, the idea is to try to get to a place where the encroachment is the slowest, and just live a simple low-key lifestyle and hopefully die of old age before they get to me.

Depends where in Europe you are looking. Large cities or Mediterranean coast can be very expensive. But you can get a house your size in the French countryside for 100,00 easily - just to give you an idea ...

I've looked. I own a 4 bedroom 1 1/2 bath house on 1/4 acre lot in a mostly white suburb of Cleveland. Current zillow value $240,000.

ANYWHERE in Europe I can get a small apartment for 300 Grand.

Believe it or not, by choosing to incarnate on this planet, you had a spiritual plan set up for this lifetime. Doesn't matter where you live, your spiritual plan remains the same. You can't escape destiny, nor your current state of consciousness. Your deluded if you think the grass is greener on the other side.

The only way to change your life circumstance is to have a change of heart or consciousness. If you can accept your life situation with gratitude, and seek to do good and noble deeds to all people you meet, this will reflect back to you a situation you can live with. Blessings to you to find the inner light!

And South American countries have corruption 100x worse than the US.

I spent 14 years traveling for work to South America (engineer - teaching the locals and designing sewage treatment and water treatment plants), and nearly every time I visited I had to pay-off police and customs to allow my engineering equipment and gear into the country.

My company had to keep a $1 million kidnapping policy on me and other team members, because even law enforcement in South America is corrupt to the core and will kidnap people for ransom.

As bad as the US has become, it's still light years better than the countries in South America.

Not true at all. Dude, there's TONS of videos that you can watch about life there. People there are kind, warm and intelligent and classy. It's a good option, but the cons are you probably have less economic opportunities, it's cold and the language is a bitch to learn but can be done. There's a pro trump guy who lives there now, american expat in russia - and he live streams. He doesn't speak Russian. He seems to really like it there.

You are so wrong. 100% wrong. It's cheap there if you're earning US dollar via remote work. There are sooooooooooooooo many youtube channels you can watch of people showing prices in Russian grocery stores. Sure, with the sanctions some not necessary stuff has gone up but their prices for regular grocery items are cheaper than here and gas is wayyyyyyyyyyyy cheaper. So why not move? Just like eveyrone else, there's family connections, obligations and one would always be the outsider. But one can always be the outsider moving to a small town in the us too. So ???

Re: Pretty much made up my mind to leave the USA
And go where?
USA is a cesspool of shit, but it's better than anywhere else on this god forsaken planet.

Somewhere in South America overlooking the ocean. I can still make money as long as I have an internet connection.

There are some good expat youtube channels

Clearly AC has never been anywhere else.

I'm sitting on my balcony enjoying the springlike weather that's about the same every day, no need for heat or A/C, gas, electric, water and sewer are ~$35/mo, cable, phone and internet ~$28/month for double the speed in the US so it works out to about 1/8 the price. Good full coverage health insurance with the best company is under $50/month and as head of the houshold covers my wife and daughter at no additional expense.

Is it perfect? No, nothing is, but it's a damn nice change and I can't really think of anything I'd change. I certainly can't imagine downgrading and moving back to the US.

hesright

Sounds like you’re in Medellin. It’d even better outside the city with growing season 24/7 and about 15 degrees F cooler once you get to the other side of the tunnel.

Yes, city just north of Medellín. Rionegro is the halfway point to our property outside of town, cooler but I enjoy it out there.
If I had a dollar for every time I got suspicious...

I'd wonder who was paying me, and why?
